Communications 130w?
Hey everyone,
I was browsing classes this morning and i stumbled across Communications 130w which is explorations in mass communications. Just wondering if it's a good class to take if I'm unclear what my major is yet. It sounds interesting, i just hope it fits in with the rest of my classes....
thanks

I had Ian Chunn for a prof and found is lectures to be unorganized and he was always going off topic, waaayy off topic to things very unrealted to the lecture. I learnt more with my TA (Fen) and the discussions. The notes are also not posted.
I also got a good grade but I hated going to class. During lecture breaks half the class would often leave and not come back.
Marking schemes in writing courses always depend on the mood of the TA and how much you suck up to them.
Iann Chunn just reads through slides and tries to make it interesting by inviting guest speakers or telling students to go to speeches and all.
Its an interesting course and if you have Arthur Aginam as your T.A; you are guaranteed pass!
However, like rkn2 said, i hated going to class and I also skipped most of the lectures.
Like 1ftw said, there isn't too much writing. There was an article analysis, final research paper, and a creative commentary script.
However this is about you, take it if you like, but be warned, that most communications courses will have you do much reading (many early mornings) and writing (reams) which will help you become a better student. If that is what you wish. If you are doing it to see if it is you thing...I suggest try it out and put some effort into it. And avoid Phonetics 220 with Pappas. Otherwise, investigate areas that you are truly interested in, even if it pisses off your parents or significant other or the state or the church...etc so forth and so on.
Cheers!
