Final Grades

edited December 2008 in General
Does anyone know how long after finals SFU releases grades?

My first two finals are this week on thurs and fri, then one sometime next week and then my last is on the 13th. I'm wondering how soon or how late I'll know how I did.

Cheers

depends on the prof, usually it's out by a week after finals.

    thats a bit optimistic... lol

All exams have to be graded 48-72 hours after the test was written. But at that point it's left to the registrar to enter them...

I think the registrar has a week or two to get it done.

hahaha.. agree with bufli.. =P my experience is usually around 2 weeks..

the earliest i had a teacher pop in a mark was a few hours after exam, actually by the time i was home he had our marks up in gradebook, took a bit longer for them to show up in gosfu but it was still quick

but on avg a good 2weeks wait for final marks...

Yeah, I remember seeing my math 251 grades almost instantly after I wrote the exam. It was like whoa. :P

But then there was the time that my quantum mechanics grade took for-EVER to go in.

    Those Math people mark fast.

I remember one of my math courses where the midterm was marked with grades up already on the same day.

Especially in a class of 300+ people.

That 251 final, I remember seeing Justin Gray and his TAs powering through the exams in the math lab the afternoon of the day of the final, heh.

Haha the marks for my second Math 151 midterm were posted the same day. Math exams are relatively easy/fast to mark because it's really either right or wrong. Of course you've got your part marks to figure out how to grant, but I mean there's a set marking scheme that doesn't allow much deviation from the "right" answer, unlike in most other courses (namely something like English)

Yea with English, you could not know a thing about whatever you're writing and just write some BS on the paper and you'll still get a C as long you got decently formed "argument" and a thesis.

On the other hand, TAs that don't like your opinion even if you did a good job, will mark you down regardless and give some BS reason like bad grammar or you didn't support the arguments enough and considering how subjective essay marking is, you can't really argue with the TA for marks back since you got nothing to go on.

I got my final grade for one class through WebCT... and I'm assuming another class will be posted soon since it was all MC... but I have one class that isn't on WebCT (CMNS 110 stuff is on the prof's website) so I guess I'll have to wait until it's uploaded to my Academic Records and stuff? But then I won't know what I got on my final exam =(

I've been around for 3 years now and I still don't know for sure. I just check it approximately 2 weeks after writing the final and generally everything is up by then. HAHA!

To once again reiterate the speed of math finals, took it yesterday, got the mark a couple hours ago. Haha.

I just got my Math 151 Final mark.

    yay.

Yet my discrete math class from a week ago is not even a 1/3 done the marking.

LOL. ONLY one was close to passing.
HOW can the average be 32/100!???
    That's hilarious, in a way.
  • edited December 2008
    No... the average was 31.

It wasn't even that the exam was too long to finish either. There were only about 20 short answer questions. It was just that hard.

250 will probably look kind of similar. :(

What course was that? Unless the class is really stupid, that prof should be reprimanded. You should not design your tests such that they have to be curved THAT heavily.

CMPT-371 (Networking) with JC Liu. This is what his final for MACM was curved like.

Much more normal, much nicer. That got me an A- in that class.
  • edited December 2008
well i got my first grade about a week after the exam, apparently they have to submit the marks to the uni within 96 hours, so any delay after that is the uni's fault.
  • edited December 2008
The rule is 2-3 business days after you write the prof has to submit to the registrar to enter.

I wrote an exam last week and the mark was posted one day later on go.sfu.
