just wondering abt bus 251. how was the course in terms of workload/distribution of grades/fairness in marking? I'm taking this course as an elective and just wanted some insight into the course.
I took it with Steve Gibson awhile back and would recommend taking it with him if he's still teaching it. It's a fairly easy class as long as you stay on top of things. It also helps if you do the assigned readings and tutorial problems before class. The work load is not bad, especially for a business course. When I took it it was just one online assignment per week, a midterm and a final. The assignments were not too difficult and the online program gave a couple attempts to get the questions right.
I took it with Anne MacDonald. It was an extremely boring class, and it was not the prof's fault (Anne was a good instructor)... you can't really make numbers and assets and liabilities exciting.
Work load, not too bad. The lecture notes are very clear and helpful, but I found that doing the practice questions was the most effective way to study for the exams. The tests were fair... just remember to show your work so you get part marks even if you get the final answer wrong.
I took it with Nicole Tomassetti, who was good. Anne MacDonald taught us one day, and I thought Nicole was a lot better. There are weekly assignments you do online, tutorial questions and one presentation also. Not the easiest elective to take, a lot of material, unless you have previous experience with accounting.
