Question

edited November 2008 in General
My buddy is gettin on AProbation after this semester because he went to Iran (family emergency) and came back literally yesterday and the moron didnt drop his courses and they're all gonna be basically fails or a C-..

My Q is, he's going back to Iran on Dec 20th (funeral)so he doesn't want to register for any courses for the next semester... but wants to come back in the summer...

Does it matter if he takes this semester off and come back or does he have to reapply ?

I think you can just ask to drop all your grades if it was a family emergency.

he could still drop the courses, he proly won't get the money back but it sounds pretty like special circumstances to me.

I think it also shows on the transcript, but it'll just say dropped.

    O rly.

But assuming he cant... assuming.. would he have ot re apply to SFU in summer or can he just not pay the 100 deposit and pay for it for the summer semester to enroll?

@ SFU u can take 2 semesters off i believe
if u take off more then 2 without talking to your adviser you may need to reapply

I would do a withdrawal for the semester especially if he has proof to show that it was an emergency.

Regardless, if he goes on AP after this semester, he is allowed to take 2 semesters off before he has to re-apply. Make sure you double check that though

I do know that in general, a semester gap is allowed without re-registration required.

However your friend should absolutely get a compassionate leave of some kind arranged so that his courses will all just get WD notations and he can re-take them hopefully without penalty later on.
