I want to cry. (Actually, I already did)
So, um, yeah. My laptop crashed 2 hours ago. Everything was on that laptop, dammit! And EVERYTHING is due this week. Holy fuck. I was working on a paper that was due tomorrow, had all my references ready, boom, crash! My fucking 15-page research proposal was on there, half of which I have backed up but my whole research design was on the laptop... And then I have another Health Science paper due for Wednesday, not started yet. But my 8-page Psychology paper was on my laptop too!!!!
My laptop's currently getting fixed right now but I have to wait a couple more hours. As long as my documents are retrieved, I will be fine. But if not, I'm pretty sure I won't be sleeping all week.
Fuck my life.

just went to email my friggin 369 crap to myself so I dont go through this.
Hope it works out for you
you never know when she'll pull the plug on you
it turned out the videocard fried which didnt let the whole thing power up, once i ripped out everything i didnt need it would make some fucked noise i then discovered my ram was fucked too so i just ripped out the HD poped it into another pc and recovered my assig and submitted it with like 10mins to spare haha
as a side note, you should get an external hard drive enclosure in case ur lappy does fry (most often its the mobo that goes) and u can just rip out ur HD and pop it into case then usb it to another pc
taking it in to a shop can be expensive for file recovery and in reality its not like they do that much....
THERE IS A GOD!!!!!!
Anywho, I gotta go pick that up. Hopefully all my files are still whole and saved and all. And now I know what I want for Christmas... new laptop! And external hard drive.
Thanks guys!
make sure you get your laptop back as I'm sure there are a few components to rip out for parts to sell (ram, LCD, built in cards like wifi, bluetooth)
Anyone got recommendations for a new laptop?! I'll only be using it for school (Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, etc.)
keeping stuff in My Documents will lead to getting pwned
from past exp i've found sony's are notorious for failures
i have an ancient Toshiba & a new one both running strong thus leaving me to believe their a good brand :) even Dell uses components from Toshiba
id also avoid HP laptops if i were you for ur next laptop i dont think any of my friends who own HP laptops said anything positive about them and one of my friends just died last week...
the one i'm using right now is the HP entertainment PC which I adore.. i accidentally dropped it once while going upstairs and thought it was a goner since it literally rolled down the stairs.. but it survived!! and this was about a year in.. right now it's hitting the 3ish-4 year landmark and they say that's about the average life span for laptops.. so i'm shopping around for a new one too.. =P right now i have my eyes on those ASUS Eee PCs..XD
Nothing quite compares to the sinking feeling you get when your computer won't turn on, or when it does, you realize your files all went kaput.
Check out something like this laptop. It's web only and a refurb (problem: 90 day warranty instead of one-year), but the price is quite decent and it's not gonna be sluggish by any means. :)

Heh, I accidentally dropped my new Compaq laptop and thought "oh crap", but it's fired up fine since then and hasn't let me down. Whew! :) Mine was also a refurb, $399 at Future Shop, and quite light and portable. :)
also no laptop is perfect, i worked for geeksquad for a long time and to say it everyone eventually came back. except for the HP NC series. havent seen those back ever lol.
every retailer's putting stuff on sale now and they'll probably have better sales soon, wait till after exams and you can go shop around for a good deal.
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/
http://www.ncix.com
http://www.anitec.ca/
they can sometimes have better deals then big places like futureshop and bestbuy ;)
dells are also not too bad either (kinda heavy though)
as for ncix and anitec and a-power, if you dont like the laptop and want to return keep in mind there is a 15% restocking fee,
It's definitely a good idea to back-up files since hard-drive recoveries can be very expensive and files are often not 100% recovered.
i_like_hiking: My friend's dad is a technician that literally lives right up the hill from me so I called him ASAP and luckily he was home. *phew*
I'm definitely waiting til after exams and after Christmas. I've been looking into getting a MacBook for sometime and I'll probably have enough money after Christmas so we'll see!
Thanks guys!
well have fun being locked into job's reality distortion field for the rest of your life.
Phil
No thanks, I'll take Vista on a refurb laptop and add a gig of cheap $20 DDR2-667 RAM and be happy as a clam for less than $500 by the time all the taxes are factored in, heh. :P
