ECON 105 - Cox vs Marshall

edited November 2008 in General
Thinking of taking ECON 105 in the spring. Anyone have some feedback on the pros/cons of each prof? (Too many mixed reviews on ratemyprof, although scrounging around these forums it seems Cox is better)

Cox seems like he's on crack in every lecture. He never stands still during lectures. I found his exams very difficult though.

i love Cox.. he actually made econ interesting for me to listen and come to all his classes.. so Cox hands down..=)

now a note about his exams.. i've talked to a couple of other people who've taken him.. and it seems that's he likes to kill either your midterm or final.. for my semester it was kill the midterm and breeze in the final.. which isn't that bad.. you can't have the best of both worlds right? =P

    marshall doesnt scale/curve the grades

i took cox last fall and he was OK
notes are really organized but i thought he was really boring
i thought his mt was easier than the final

He jumps around from one projector to another like a rabbit.

he also takes small steps back and does a little hop/jog towards the same projector
(that kept me awake for the first 15 mins of first lecture)

I'm taking Marshall's 105 class now. For this semester ONLY, he decided to allow the midterm to be shifted; so the final could be worth 80% of the grade. The average midterm mark was 48%~ or something. The tutorials have no participation marks, so not much enthusiasm in the tutorials; the TA's just spoon feed- IMO thats good. And yes, there is no scaling!

He distributes lecture notes before the lecture; so its easy to follow.
He makes his lectures electronically available too.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna go with Marshall because it just fits better in my schedule. Taking it with Cox makes my schedule kinda narsty. =P

Thanks for the great feeback, guys
