so speeding on the highway vs speeding on the mountain is different in that one is excusable? how is it different that on the highway its ok and the mountain its not.? wouldnt it be best that no one speed at all, since it is still possible for people to create accidents on the highway as it is possible to create them on the mountain?
going 120 uphill on sfu would probably give you more of a chance to brake in a shorter distance rather then attempting to do the same on the highway as there is more resistance on the car travelling uphil because of gravity.
most ppl drive at around 110-120 on the highway anyways...ur goin around 20km/hr more than the speed limit?? this guy doubled up on the limit, plus in an area of limited visibility? higher resistance wont change jackshit when you dont know whats coming up..
going double the limit is just putting people around you in danger
compared to that goin 10/20+ the limit isnt that bad..... most cops dont even care if ur goin 5-10+ the limit

what Lazyguy said + there are very few buses on a highway
i agree that you did not provide a physical description of the person and see that as a fair statement however it is not always necessary to do a plate lookup to find the owner of a vehicle. as sfu is a fairly small community it would be possible, should a person be motivated to do so, to find out the owner of the vehicle based on the information that was provided.
also i give some respect to the fact that you would expect the same.
however, if video surveilance is to become the norm and the slow encroachment of cctv cameras every 30 feet is to occur because society is desensitized to the nature of being video recorded then,
what is suggested by the type of behaviour you practice (i.e. recording bad drivers) is that rather then individual citizens of "goodwill" go around recording the bad guys speeding around with their dashboard mounted cameras, there should be a system in place to catch people via the government. as your actions do not provide any resolve to the issue whereas the government or law enforcement could apprehend and punish said offenders...?
I absolutely agree with you on most of those points! But let me clarify, I don’t get in my car and drive around recording bad drivers. I get in my car and drive somewhere I need to be, if along the way someone does something stupid on public roads then they are unfortunate enough to get recorded (I might point out SFU has cameras even on the roads). If I could confront the person and tell them their behavior is unacceptable I would. In this case I couldn’t so I tried to point it out on a related SFU forum where the person could possibly read it and hopefully realize something. Moreover, I even stated these videos are for my own use (“in case shit”, precautionary approach), they are not uploaded anywhere for anyone else to see…in fact they don’t even make it off the device.
so yes i believe the govt should be doing something to enforce its rules better but they don't always have the means. what it comes down to in my view is bringing some kind of humility on the person in question, far less of a sting to them, than say a ticket but still provocative enough to make them think about their actions
i stated why i do it, if the people working for ICBC wouldn't be such assholes about their job a witness and a statement would be enough proof.. but to them its about money and if they make a case 50/50 both parties pay their own damage and they both have their rates increased... if hitting a rec button before i set off the drive means i can avoid dealing (arguing) with ICBC then yes its worth it i hope u haven't had bad experiences with ICBC and i hope no1 will :)
i can apprehend where you're coming from but i don't think it warrants you to mount a camcorder and record other people while they're driving.. if you don't have a sufficient reason as to why they're appearing on your camera they have the right to ask you to remove it.. it is in a sense an invasion of privacy.. (paradoxical i know since it's a public place)
to be honest.. i wouldn't want to be recorded by some stranger i don't know.. it's no different than someone grabbing a camera and scanning it around as they walk on the streets or taking pictures of something but accidentally snaps a shot of a person too... it's one thing if some people are willing participants or don't mind it at all.. but totally another if someone decides they do not want to be in your recorded material in any way.. and believe me i've seen people being vigilant in verifying that they don't show up on there..
so.. proceed with caution.. =P but telling people on the a forum that you press rec while you drive isn't exactly a preventive measure or a wise idea per se.. hmmmm...
I dun remember saying anything about you being in a car, but alright!!
Speaking of speeding, i remember one time with my friend, hes going 140 down the highway, semi truck with trailer zooms past us, going at least 160 haha idiots (both drivers, haha)

ever go on holliday with a camcorder? ever seen tourists on holliday with camcorder? ya they record lots of stuff, lots of people, invasion of privacy? maybe.. i record my own actions in a public domain which are already partially recorded by security cameras and such (cmpt 320 goes into a lot of privacy issues about being recorded in public) moreover, i dont go out of my way to record someone nor upload this content anywhere, and like i stated, unless something happed to me where i would need this shit as evidence, its deleted instantly does the though of being on camera scare u? dont go in public... as simple as that
by your argument u should go to every store u walk past which has a street front and demand they delete the tape of u walking past the store... since most stores have cameras facing the doors/windows in case someone decides to break in its the same case here i have something for my own security, not for enjoyment of any kind, but for dealing with ICBC if the need be, if there aint then there is nothing ;)
no the thought of being on camera does not scare me.. it's more of a preference actually.. that i would appreciate if they gave me the heads up.. as simple as that..

read my post again (and the one below it).. that's not what i said.. i'm merely stating that people can and will demand you remove them from your collection if they wish to do so.. it's illogical to assume someone will demand a removal every time they realize they're being recorded/taken a picture of.. but know they have the right to issue such request..
so no i will not go to every store i pass by and demand them to delete the footage of me walking.. i will reinstate the issue of preference... and the right to have them delete the footage if i wanted to...
rec start if depart A and arrive destination B rec stop video delete else if depart A and timeout to B rec stop vid handed over to police vid delete else rec stop vid delete
i dono about u but nowhere in there do i say i keep, watch or store anything...
but there are some cool ones that like to pop the cars on two wheels and drive it down the road
u should watch some of those vids when they got wrong and the car crashes into crowd of ppl OR better yet when they go on 2 wheels and guy goes out window then car falls over and im sure the guy gets some sexy road rash lol
i can imagine whats its like in iran if its anything like italy or worse off like the eastern european countries its sad haha

I know, that's what I said to my parents. My parents refused to let me have a cell phone when I lived with them.
On the topic of this thread. If I were to go downtown Vancouver and start taking pictures of whatever the fuck I feel like, and someone walks infront of the lens so he is now in my picture. Yes he has the right to ask me to destroy it and yes I will tell him to fuck off because 1) it is a public place and if he does not want to be seen then don't go to a public place and 2) there is no laws that prevent me from recording whatever information or details on anyone and doing what I want with them, when it is taken from a public place.
nor did i say anywhere in my posts that you are bufli.. =P i was just offering my views and opinions on the issue.. if they are to be taken in an offensive way i will cease any further input and close the case..
following jaydub's logic.. if someone want to parade naked in downtown he/she can because it's a public place.. if you don't want to look then don't go to a public place?
following jaydub's logic.. if someone want to parade naked in downtown he/she can because it's a public place.. if you don't want to look then don't go to a public place?
That doesn't follow my logic at all...
If you don't want to look... then don't, no one is making you.
If you don't want to be seen nude, then don't go nude downtown. If you don't want to be seen at all, don't go out in public.
As for being nude in public, I am not even going to discuss that, it's basically not allowed anyways, read section 175 of the criminal code.
ahh.. but the issue at hand is this person wants to parade naked.. hence he/she wants to be seen.. the nudity factor was for illustrative purposes so no need to dwell further into the issue.. i'm aware of what's written the CC...
perhaps i should've thought of something more fitting as i came up with this example randomly... but hmm.. let's say a hobo wants to sleep in the middle of the road and does cause it's a public place.. then drivers tells him either sleep elsewhere or get off the street the hobo tells him to fuck off because:
1) it's a public place, if he does not want to drive over him then take the alternative route
2) there no laws prohibiting a hobo or anyone for that matter sleeping in a public place
basically.. that's equivalent to saying he can do whatever he wants and disregard the well-being of everyone else.. =S

just thought i would add that :)
