Its unlikely you'll get in any crim or psych upper level courses if you're not a declared major/minor in the school since slots are reserved for the first two weeks of registration for accepted major/minor students

That is a very lethal mix schmoey. You may want to postpone taking some of those?

Judging by his enrollment date, he/ she must be some whiz. Let him have it.

I have a list of some possible combination of courses I am going to take.

    CMPT 307, 354, 376, 384, 411, 431, 471
    MATH 380
    ENGL 101, 104
    HIST 225
    CRIM 300, 315, 317, 343, 356, 402, 413, 433.

    Only five of those though.

Does someone know what a seminar is? Versus a lecture or tutorial?
Good luck with hist 225 man. there will be alotta talk about wwII. I took it back in the summer of 06. Btw is your instructor Panchasi by any chance?

Btw, does anyone know how they determine the appointments? I've heard so many theories/rumours over the years. Heck I even asked an advisor and she doesn't know.

I think the general rule is that Athletes (school sanctioned/ varsity), Scholarship (ex: Primexx), Disabled Students, and new students (straight from high school) always register first. Afterward, the amount of credit you have determines which week you register and your GPA determine at what time are you registering.

Therefore, scholarship students such as Primexx will be registering first. Afterwards, fourth year students such as Morro and MB will be registering. Follow by third year students such as myself, Blackhat, Jaydub. Finally, second and first year students.

Finally, it will be international students and student with dismal GPA. Personally, I think letting students with dismal GPA to register last is counter productive. It is not like left overs such as Philosophy is going to help them a lot with their GPA.

Mine is Nov 25th at 12:30.

I don't understand the whole "enrollment date panic" that sweeps through the school every semester. I've never once had a problem getting into a class I wanted to take. Then again, I don't take crim or business courses, which seem to have the most competition.
I hope i get my classes... I'm majoring in Humanities and I don't think a lot of people take HUM classes so I'm hoping I'll get my classes XD

First year, second semester, Dec 4th ='(
Hoping to take 4 of these...
HUM 130 (prolly Dist ed... but it's only 60 seats...)
    LING 110 (GPA booster?!)
ARCH 252 (I'll probably get this, it's at night, ha)
HSCI 160 OR 130 (GPA booster?! Hahaha!)
SA 150 (I heard it's fun... despite being 3 hours long, oh god)

Does anyone know the chances of me getting those classes? Since i have the worst registration date possible... I'm looking at the class capacity for fall 08 and there's some seats but that's probably because people dropped out first week.
If switch courses, I won't lose any money right? So i should just take anything left and hope that people drop out of the course I want so I can take it....
  • edited October 2008
I don't think you'll lose money if you switch courses, but you should definitely sign up for as many courses as you can that you think you might want to take.

It's free to drop courses up until a certain date, so there's no penalty for signing up for 6 then choosing which 4 you want.

    HUM 130 is always full.

Wow, I think I would lose all my hair by the end of the semester with that course load.

Nov 28, around 40 credits I think. Mine's always pretty late, but I always manage to get the courses I want so no biggie.

From a Humanities major standpoint, great choice overall. I praise you for taking HUM 130 because I took that BS HUM 216 with Ackens instead of HUM 130 back in Spring 08. Worse, I'll probably have to take HUM 130 later if I do plan to do a Religious Studies Certificate.

What other HUM courses have you taken?

ARCH 252 is a great course. The professor is very good and nice and the course is quite easy (for someone who quite enjoy ancient Egyptian history).

Are you going to be just plain Humanities major and nothing else. Because if you plan to do a minor, I'll suggest you start working on the minor as well. As for those other courses, be careful and don't be too adventurous.

I wouldn't stress too much on ARCH 252 and HUM 130. Just make sure you get yourself on the waitlist if you can't get in at first because people will drop courses.

i would've so taken arch 252 if they take out the Africa part.. or have something that's exclusively on Egyptian history..

Look, I thought about the same thing when I first took this course. However, about half the course is on Egypt and the rest is on the African and African groups closely related to the Egyptians. I just treat the African portion like normal but devoted EXTRA time and dedication towards the Egyptian stuff. In the end, it landed me an A-.

Other HUM courses I have taken are 101 (I HATE IT SO MUCH MY PROFS AND TA ARE TERRIBLE HOLY) and 102 (LOVE IT! The prof is also the TA and he's doing HUM 101 next semester... DAMN! If i knew i would have waited to take HUM 101!)
Yeah I'm excited for ARCH 252, I originally wanted it for another ARCH course, about Shamans and whatnot, but I think it'll be a good course by itself. And I've also always had a fascination with Egyptian history...

I'm majoring in Humanities... but I'm not interested in much of anything else enough to do a minor in it... any suggestions? I know you're doing History as well but I don't like modern history... I'm enjoying my CMNS 110 lectures and I was thinking about minoring in that, but I don't understand the readings, hahaa! Love my prof and his lectures though =]
I heard Asian studies courses are interesting/easy (my friend suggested for GPA booster or something) maybe i'll try them next semester

Yeah I'm being kinda aventurous since for Humanities there isn't a large amount of required courses...

What's wrong with Africa? I always thought it was kinda sad that I never really learned about it in high school and stuff (my History 12 teacher was sympathetic to the fact that Africa is barely mentioned if not at all... but we had no time to discusss it anyways...)

    SA 255/SA 201W
    IAT 244(if possible)
    FNST 101

    3 or 4 of them

Oh, one more thing, what happens to the Summer semester? they really cut that off?

Yeah, Pearson is great. So, all that's left for you to take is one of the great texts, HUM 105, HUM 130, and one more HUM lower level course.

Why didn't you take HUM 105 this semester as well? You'll probably have to wait until next fall to take it.
Yeah I'm excited for ARCH 252, I originally wanted it for another ARCH course, about Shamans and whatnot, but I think it'll be a good course by itself. And I've also always had a fascination with Egyptian history...
That Shamans course is worth considering if you plan to grab a Religious Studies certificate. The Shamans course is one of the required courses that one that I will probably take to finish off my Religious Studies Certificate. Have you went by the Humanities Department recently and picked up the Religious Studies Certificate brochure?
I'm majoring in Humanities... but I'm not interested in much of anything else enough to do a minor in it... any suggestions?
None really. But you'll find something.

Asian studies. While I have not heard of this "interesting/ easy" bit, but Asian studies do have some good professor. Consider taking Intro to Japanese Civilization (ASC 201) next semester with Professor Pendleton.
Yeah I'm being kinda aventurous since for Humanities there isn't a large amount of required courses...
That's what's great about humanities. I started my humanities program a year after my history and now I am almost finish with my humanities program while I still got a long way to go with history.

oh nothing is wrong with Africa.. =P i just prefer to take a course that's solely dedicated to Egyptian history.. i think i would enjoy that much more than having half the course talking about something else..

SA 150!!! I LOVED that course. There are always a ton of seats in that class. It's usually in one of the larger lecture halls (C9001/B9200). I had Ann Travers and I hear she's coming back next semester but not sure if she'll be teaching that course again. However, I've heard great things about Kenneth Fish teaching the course. It's a really interesting course that relates with everyday life. I'm sure you'll like it. Plus, it's 4 credits. Woot!

My enrollment date is Nov 10 at 10:00. Thanks to open scholarship.
    3rd year, 70 credits.
I have no idea which couses to take. I still need a lot elective courses, and try to satisfy 45 upper level credits requirement at the same time ... ...
So maybe some marketing courses, IAT 100, CMPT 165 and sth else.
