I am happy with the outcome. I like Harper, and he has a minority, so there will be no abuse of power.

I DON'T like Harper, but he's less annoying than the rest. I'm happy.

I totally agree with you, IVT. I absolutely love Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party; I do agree that a minority government is definitely better than a majority government. Like you said, there will not be abuse of power. Also, I believe that a balance between the Conservative on one end and the Liberal and NDP on the other will create a good balance of left and right.

If Prime Minister Harper continues with his good work and safe us from the impending economic crisis, history will place him amongst the greatest Prime Ministers in Canadian History. Ironic isn't it? While the Americans south of us have what WILL BE the WORST President in American history, we may be having one of the greatest Prime Minister in Canadian History.

This is really a great first time voting experience for me and this is totally worth two years of waiting, and the result just makes something great even better. When I went to the polling station, I was so excited about voting that, after signing in, I headed straight toward the voting booth and did not head to the ballot booth to pick up a ballot. As for the result of my riding, I am happy to say that I got myself a new Member of Parliament and we sent the old one (Raymond Chan) packing.

So what? When the Liberals were the majority, the Liberals pretty much left us for dead while giving everything to the east coast. With the Conservative coming into power, the Conservatives give us hope and pride that we desperately needed.

    Revenge is sweet.

the tories are going to fuck everyone over for another 3/4 years now, i'm NOT happy with the outcome.

they've made it clear during the election that if they get reelected they're going to push the same bullshit facist bills which died on the order paper the last time, and there's a huge ass list of them.

harper is fucking evil!!! EVIL I tell you!!!

paying more attention to the east cant be pinned on the libs, when almost every government in power has done it....conservatives have been in power for the last 2 1/2 years......shouldnt you have already have felt that hope and pride by now?
I think that if the conservatives fuk up really bad when considering the economy, liberals are gunna gain a lot of votes for the next election

"my mother is retired and watching her portfolio hour by hour" -- most people can't even afford a portfolio thanks to you, great job man :D

"i have an RSP mutual fund portfolio but havent actually looked at it since i got elected" -- thats great genius cause we pay you $120,000 a year out of our pockets plus travel expenses.

hes still on the same plan which he has in 2007 which hasnt helped increase our economy at all, oh joy. when mansbridge interviews him and says harper doesnt actually interact with families.

"creating specific jobs in aerospace and automobile, creating jobs cause we're loosing jobs" -- great, i should have gone to bcit and got my cert. in auto rather then study at SFU.

"i look at the stock portfolios and savings of my mother and other canadians at the table" -- what other canadians were you dining with harper?

attempts to blame opposition parties and then mansbridge catches him on it and tries to redirect the convo. pretty much avoids answering anything that questions his so called "plan b"--fan fuckin tastic

again with the "aerospace and automobile" thing, us students at SFU must be chumps, those boys at bcit and kwantlen are the real smarties.

doesnt want to touch taxes or deficit, so where ya gonna make the money to help all those families u promised?

trade is gonna drop -- revenues for government is gonna drop -- less money on table -- governments position is vulnerable

    HOORAY!!! they budgeted "conservatively"

are we REALLY in a 3 billion dollar surplus.. as harper says...?

    ---

dont even wanna get into part 2 of his interivew.

The Canadian economy is going down the shitter because every other economy is going down the shitter. Harper is smart for telling people to stay calm.

Personally, I blame the Americans and our close tie with them, which, if I may add, is started by the Liberals. Like Trudeau said, "you are sharing a bed with an elephant. If the elephant rolls, you will feel an earthquake." We could have strengthen our ties with China or Southeast Asia. Seriously, while the Americans are in economic hell, the Chinese just shot someone into space and brought him back alive. Time to make some new friends.

Either that, or the Canadian economy is flourish after this economic crisis is over and Harper will achieve the status of a demigod amongst Conservatives.

How is the current economic situation Harper's fault? Is it just because he was PM when it become widely known?

More update from the Richmond Riding...

According to CTV, I just found that my new MP Alice Wong won by as much as 8108 votes. If 893 more people voted for Alice Wong, then we have ourselves a new meme...

Raymond Chan: Vegeta, how much more votes did Alice Wong won?
Vegeta: It is over NINE THOUSSSSSSSAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNND!

Well, I was still hoping that Harper would, like he promise, reform the Canadian Senate system. As of right now, the Senate is still sitting down as a symbol of the ancient past. I mean, sure, it is not like the Senate has shot down any laws yet, but I don't like the whole patronage thing...

overall.. i'm happy with a minority gov't.. i didn't think that the cons would do as well as a gov't when they got into power (thought they were going to be a liberal replica) but they've proven me wrong.. i have faith in Layton and Dion in keeping Mr. Harper on his toes.. maybe even make him shed a few pounds..

Another friggin' minority government. Another few years of squandering in the house before the next election comes.

Since most Canadians don't have such pressing issues just yet as the economic troubles hasn't come our way, Harper gets elected. He called this election a few month ago to use this economic issue as an engine for majority, a majority where any bills coming through will be passed. He's not a dumb guy, he's an economist who also happens to be our Prime Minister. Never trust anyone who sucks up, especially to the most powerful person in the room: USA.

I find it funny that people complain about the fact that it's a minority government and also that the conservatives won. Even if the conservatives had somehow managed to lose a large percentage of their support and lose the election; even if the liberals had won 50 seats from the conservatives, it would still be a minority government.

I actually prefer a minority government to a majority government, especially when it comes to Canadian politic. Since our governmental system is based upon the Westminister/ Parliamentary System, it is quite hard to have dissenting voice in politic. All the MP is EXPECTED *cough* forced *cough* to follow the party line, and if they dissent, they can forget about getting re-elected. Look, we don't have these so call "Mavericks" John McCain, who supposed agree with the Republican trail of thought, but sometimes vote against party line because he is a Maverick. With a Majority government in Parliament, laws will get passed without examination and scrutiny like there is no tomorrow.

There is something wrong with our election process. Why does the green party have no seats and yet have 6% of Canada's support? Why does Bloc have around 50 (if i recall) seats with only %10 of the support? Bullshit.

The Liberals really crashed and burned this time.
