fpa 104?

anyone in fpa 104? I need help with page 114...the diatonic tone names chart. How do u kno if u put i flat or sharp in certain boxes?

    There's only a certain number of keys that you can fit in the boxes... just trial and error first and you'll understand.

    Whoah vonnie you took/are taking FPA 104? Cool =)

    If I've understood this correctly, because these are all major diatonic scales, I would start by filling in the scale with the correct accidentals in the key signature (e.g. for the 2nd degree, fill in D E F# G A B C# D). From there, fill in the rest keeping in mind that this is diatonic, you want to try to have a different letter for each step (obviously this is unavoidable when you're going from say Gb to G).. but for the most part, most of the rest you're filling in will probably be the next note flattened.

    Does that make sense?

    I took FPA 104 a few semesters ago. Easy credit ;)

    yah i started off doing that for 2nd degree. but i checked my answer on webct...and its like...totally wrong. well not totally wrong, but its got flats AND sharps

    That's what I was saying -- because it's diatonic, when you go up a semitone it's going to be a diatonic semitone, thus the letter is gonna change and you'll have a flat (this is independent of the scale itself which may already have sharps)
