Have you ever dropped a course late into the semester?

edited September 2008 in General
I'm just curious, what was going through your head when you did it, why you did it, and at what point in the semester you did it.

I was sitting doing this reading for CRIM300W and I felt like I could go on no longer, I cursed the class a few times under my breath and wondered if I should drop it, as I'm working full time and a full time course load.

I then realized its a required course and I don't have much of a choice whether or not I want to take it .

Theory classes are absolutely awful.

that's a hard situation to be in...
my advice is this: we are almost done week 4. It went fast and it will go fast. Just stick to it! Also, if its required and you quit now, then you will have to redo the last 4 weeks worth of stuff.

Just hang in there! Good luck :)

edit: I disagree...I find theory classes enjoyable. But maybe Crim theory is awful, i don't know.

I dropped psyc 280 pretty late into the semester, got out of it right before the deadline I think

but like you said, theres no way around 300 so you'll have to do it eventually

The latest I have ever dropped a class was in week 1, when I dropped one of my HUM class and replaced it with a HIST class.

i had fabian for 104 and it was a disaster, 103 was a walk in the park im comparison

i saw one course i wanted to take this semester with fabian and decided against it immediately.

tried to make it seem like I'm stalking you :( fail
I had Cartwright for 104, finished the final in 30mins and managed to get a B+ somehow...
I guess thats still a letter grade or two below his class average though!
  • edited September 2008
fabians 104 required: tutorial participation, tutorial group presentation, 10 page paper, midterm, and final...C+ ;-( her class made me drop below 3.5 that semester
  • edited September 2008
104 for me, we had to present on a chapter in tutorial, write a 6 page paper, midterm and final... maybe something on attendance/participation, dunno was a long time ago
but to give you an idea how easy Cartwright's classes are, he tells you whats on the exam; I didn't take the plastic wrap off my text books until I had to do my paper and the class average for his 104/131 classes are consistently B+ at least I think

Actually most people took 131 with him so I'm sure you know.
    props on the high GPA!
  • edited September 2008
didnt take him for 131 but i heard everyone loves him, i got martin bouchard who taught the class really well as well, got out of that with an A

what have you heard about lynn belle as opposed to gail anderson for the bio crime classes?

Is it bad to have a WD notation on your transcript?
  • edited September 2008
yes and no, its all relative to what you're going to be doing with your grades

I think its more CRIM 355 is ridiculously easy to begin with...for the advanced bio crim courses though...
  • edited September 2008
going back to the original question, i once dropped a course on the last day where a WD notation wouldn't show up on my transcript. it was a spur of the moment thing too. that day i sat in class, realized how much i didn't like it, went out while the prof gave us a break, and dropped it at the computer lab.

although i couldn't get money back, it was probably the best decision i've made in university haha (it was a math course! *shudder*)

Which CRIM course is this that you are refering to? As in, which number?

Anyways, 355 is definitely not a hard course that is for sure, but any prof can make a class as hard or as easy as they want. Her breakdown is ridiculous and I have had harder times in first year classes. 20% tutorial participation for just showing up, 40% for an essay on an episode of CSI and 40% for a seen final.
