Opinion: How much is too much?

edited October 2008 in General
In terms of age difference, be it male > female or female > male?
Also, do you think it matters between say, 16 and 20 yrs old or 18 and 22?

I remember hearing something about "half your age + 7" but somehow I find that to be... flawed.

16 and 20 is getting a bit much, but COULD be OK. A little creepy, though.
    18 and 22 is fine.

my girlfriend is 24 and her man is 40.. =P

if it's within +/- 10 years be it the male or female that's older it's cool with me.. then again.. who are you to judge between what's cool/not cool in someone else's relationship..

    16 and 20 won't work. 18 and 22 will probably work.

Me? I personally don't care much about age. The older the better, in my opinion. Just as long as they have a car and their own place.

I think anyone can date anyone, as long as each of them are over 18, maybe even 20, because 18 year olds have bad judgement.

Maybe even 22. Theres a giant difference between a 25 year old dating a 40 year old, and a 16 year old dating a 31 year old.

I think there is a threshold age where it doesn't matter, the age when you got most of your shit together.

    Back on topic!

I'm 19 and my boyfriend is 25. So far it's working out really well, probably because we have so many common interests and everything just fits. I don't see it as much of an age difference at all -- the only thing is that he's well into his career, and I'm in my second year, but it's not too big of a problem right now.

When I was 17/18 I was with a 27/28 year old, and we argued a lot. He was pretty well experienced in all aspects of life, and I wasn't...so it was difficult. I see myself as more of a 21-22 year old though, maturity wise and probably in appearance, but even so.

It really depends on the person and where they're at...sometimes it has to do with age, sometimes it doesn't! HOWEVER, I'll be honest in saying that when the girl is older, I think it can be a problem (maturity is in question...)

Girls are generally always ahead of guys in the maturity department, so I'd agree that when guys are older its just generally better, cause they can be more on par with you.

I dont think 19 / 25 is that bad of a gap, the career thing may be an issue if he wants someone into their career, but if hes in no hurry it shouldnt be a problem

If there's fluff on the muff, she's old enough.

If there's grass on the pitch, let's play!

My idea is that as long as both partner are comfortable with each other, any amount of difference is fine. It is kind of like what JayDub said,

Well I'm 18, and my girlfriend is 15...i'll be 19 in december, and she'll be 16 in January. She is more mature that i am so we balance eachother out...but when i tell friends that she is 15 they all act absoulutely bemused
