Possible SFU Med School
It's not concrete yet, but they are thinking about a new medical school either at SFU or at a new UBC satellite campus

Sure, adding a Med-School should help SFU regain some of its lost reputation. By the way, will it be operated by SFU if it indeed will be built on the Burnaby Campus? Too bad I will be long gone by the time it is open.
o ya...wut ones the arts & social sciences complex??
FHS won't all fit in there, they are too small, so definitely this would be a good candidate for a Med School at SFU.
we don't have a shortage of health professionals, we have a shortage of them being allowed to practice, and the schools not accepting enough trying to keep their associations limited in number to increase demand
but it would be a good thing for sfu
Oh Snap
how the fuck is that common sense from a business perspective?
UBC= only med school in BC, accepted only 250 applicants out of 1800
Why would ubc limit the amount of money they make when there is already a huge demand?
And who said anything about business? Medicine is socialized in Canada (I hope I don't have to explain to you the implications of this), meaning a business model is basically irrelevant. Now what was that you were saying about common sense . . . ?
1.) First off, you didn't need to tell me that there is a shortage, that was already clear because thats what the whole fukin thread is about.
2.) Its been a known fact for years that the process of allowing foreign doctors, specialists etc., to work in Canada is a long and strenuous process. Does this have anything to do with the fact that we are talking about the shortage of these positions in BC....in relation to there being only one medical school here? NO
3.) What does medicine being socialized in Canada have anything to do with UBC limiting its acceptance rate to increase demand (apparently...for UBC med)? Enough said.
Now this is what I suggest you do, go back to your elementary school and slap your grd.1 teacher for not teaching you how to read you stupid fuck.
WHAT exactly do you mean when you say: "Why would ubc limit the amount of money they make when there is already a huge demand?"
Do you mean, why would UBC limit amount of money UBC makes, or why would UBC limit the amount of money doctors can make?
What are the implications of foreign doctors not being able to practice here? A greater chance for me to go to med school and have my own practice? and i meant UBC....go back and read your initial comments cuz they make no sense.....honestly all i wanted was a source for this "fact" of yours because it partly concerns me...not so common sense after all..huh?
If you can't understand the implications of how hard it is for foreign doctors to practice, in relation to UBC's low acceptance rates than you're pretty thick.
Let me spell it out differently. Lets just say if there are two medical schools in BC, I would assume that UBC would admit less people.
haha
