Google Android

edited September 2008 in General
Google just recently announced the release of their first phone (HTC G1)....apparently its going to be good competition for the iphone because its a mostly open-source operating system... which opens up many opportunities not available on a i-phone. Anyone interested in getting it once it arrives here?

It's cool that google made an OS for phones...most of the ones that cell phone companies made themselves were crap. But all these people that think Android is going to help any phone beat the iPhone is severly mistaken. The iPhone works so well it's almost a work of art. They've put thought into every little detail which is why it works perfectly from so many different aspects. For example, when you're sitting there listening to music with headphones on and you get a beep in your headphones and you can click a button to answer the call...invaluable.

And as for apps...developers are making good money by developing apps for the iphone. This allows them to make better apps and improve the existing ones as well, and no matter how hard Android tries, free apps will never be better than paid ones. I'd rather pay 4.99 for an app that works properly then get one for free that doesn't. And anytime Android open source developers come up with a good, unique app, the iphone developers will make a better version of it for the iPhone and probably make some money in the process. Win win for everyone.

With that said, Google IS the most innovative company today. They have a huge cash cow from their advertising revenue that they can afford to innovate just for the sake of pushing technology forward. Same thing applies with Chrome.
