Annoyances in DE Classes
I generally like DE classes, as I can work around my own schedule and avoid the struggle of campus food and eating...anyway I've found some things that generally irrirtate me at this point now in upper div DE
1) People with robotic participation...for example: In this class I'm in now, one person makes a presentation on the readings, and we are supposed to respond and critique, facilitating discussion like in a tutorial. Instead people just post a mini sum of the notes, and don't bother responding critically, just regurgitation and ignoring the other posts. I almost miss arguing in classes compared to this.
2) No participation at all...for example: I don't mind if a class has no participation component, I mean, thats great. But I have this one class that has a 25% component, and in my group NO ONE has actually posted the past three weeks. I'm having discussions with myself as per the TA's suggestion. It's kind of funny almost, but its surprising.
3) Lack of clarity in instructions. For example, the due dates, the readings etc. Most DE courses have a standardized format for their readers etc, and none of them are particularly helpful. Some even have contradictions, like no Elive component, then being told you have to do some Elive, in spite of now not having the time in your schedule.

Then these people have the ballz to say at the end of the semester, "oh but we were busy," "we didn't have the time," "we have jobs."
Seriously? What... the... fuck...?
These people did not have five minutes once a week to post something?
They need to work on their time management skills because they have piss poor planning.
Now of course the punchline is, this is a full webCT class!
i was expecting triMOON to flame my post, and now im at a loss for words as he did not
my group does the same thing
No matter if you like/ dislike something, if you choose to do a DE course, you have to put up with that and post weekly. Most of them have 10% or 20% of your grade for participation.
I personally love webct...compared to first class, I dont like having to open multiple windows in first class its really irritating.
The only thing I like more about firstclass is the forum and reply functions are better, but either way the forums on each suck...
webCT's method of dealing with replies to posts makes it really hard to tell whos talking to who--
while firstclass' the text is really messy, overall i just think firstclass is a mess
have you ever tried having a discussion on a webct post? you get lost in a maze of replies
if you reply to a message yours goes under that one, even though others that are chronologically before yours, they go afterwards, i think a lot of people look at the last post on a post to reply to
either way i still like webct better, firstclass is infinitely ugly
FirstClass WebCT Do you honestly prefer that jumbled mess FirstClass pretends to "sort" your messages into?
FirstClass is ugly, with its RE RE RE RE RE system.
What both of them need is a proper tree system.
When im talking about webCT, im talking about responses in one thread, within one forum, so its like this
Topic 1 10:00PM
RE: Topic 1 10:05PM
RE: RE: Topic 1 10:07PM
RE: Topic 1 10:06PM
except, it doesnt branch like a tree, just the responses fall in line like how a tree response should
i would prefer it chronological and tree branched
please dont infer i prefer firstclass in any manner, i hate firstclass
i just meant it has one aspect better than webCT in whatever insignificant way
im just talking about my experience in a class where 30+ people were all commenting within ONE message, within ONE forum
it was a mess with people trying to have conversations...if you want to respond to the first post it works well, even great, because then they all fall in line, but when you're responding to responses of responses it starts to get confusing
eg cmpt 165:wink:
WHAT DE CLASSES ARE YOU TAKING?
