Hardwood floors at SFU?

edited September 2008 in General
Hey, a question for all you SFU officiados.
My partner and I are looking for a place to dance (practice) at SFU, but we are having a problem locating a nice place with hardwood floors (or a really smooth linoleum/cement).
Anyone know of any hardwood/smooth surfaces at the Burnaby campus? Preferrably secluded, but will take anything around now.

There is a small room near/behind the gym that uses hardwood flooring and is complete with mirrors too. I do believe you need a key to get in, however. Not sure if you have to rent the room out though. I used to practice dancing there too in the mornings.

What kind of dance are you practicing? Ballroom?

    Try the Dance Club.

Dance Club I think practices in either the Atrium caf, or in the new AASC building (or whatever its name is) - both are unsuitable.
xxk1inky, thanks, that sounds great. I do the Argentine Tango. Could you be more specific as to what gym that is? I will contact SFu rec in any case.
    Thanks,
    TH

I know the perfect spot for you my friend.

There is a small gym in the AQ. Go to the education faculty and walk in and there are some small stairs on your left that go down. It's hardwood floors just like the ones we had in the elementary school days and it's available for bookings.

It's behind the new gym in West Mall Centre. Sorry I didn't specify.

Nice! Argentine Tango, eh? I did an Argentine Tango routine for my birthday last year. It's pretty sensual! Are you competing?

Thanks to both Kevin and K1nky.
Kevin, I think you are talking about the MPC gym - I will definitely look into it, especially if you can schedule it.
As for competing, goodness no! I haven't been dancing a lot yet (year or so), but practice really sped up my progress, so I want to get as much done as possible up here inbetween lessons. So, thanks for the location - I will go enquire about it at the Rec. Office today (key and all that).
    Thanks again!

Just an update for general interest - both that small hardwood room, and MPX gym are available, but for rental, (35$/hour for small, 65$/MPX)... so not really an option.
However, just a concluding thought, if there is a room available, why can't they let students drop-in like they do with the big gyms? Doesn't seem fair, necessarily. Boycott the Rec.!

Are you serious? It was for rental? I guess I was being rebellious without knowing and "snuck" in there and practiced. The door was unlocked a couple times. Yikes. Practicing ballroom on campus is difficult. If you're really desperate, you can just practice in the new gym on early mornings because no one's really there.

Yeah, I would have no problem with the gym (in the mornings it IS empty), but my partner and I can only dance around peak hours.
Seriously, what bugs me is that there IS a nice room - why can't they let the general populace use it. I mean it's hardwood, it's not like it's going to wear down in a year.
