Not sure about PSYC, but maybe you should take some ENGL Courses first =)

the two intro psychs were marked harder than the 200 level psychs imo
but in general, like any other 100 level intro class, its not horribly tough

as mentioned this an intro course so you're just going to be bombarded with all sorts of topics within the realms of psychology.. personally i think the course is way too scattered.. there's a lot to read and not all that engaging (the text is littered with fillers) but it's manageable..

they cancelled tutorials last semester due to the funding cut, so...not so great

I liked PSYC 100. I took it during Intersession and I'm kind of glad I did take it then or else I probably would've gotten a shitty mark if it were during a regular semester. It's pretty dense but if you have had some basic background knowledge in Biology, it should come easy(er) to you. Minimal knowledge in Philosophy is good too (for the first chapter of PSYC 100).

I'm taking PSYC 102, the other half of PSYC 100, right now and it doesn't seem so bad. I have the same prof (Arthur/George Adler) and I like the way he teaches. He's a really good prof for Psychology.

Budget cuts in the Psychology Deparment have caused all tutorials to be cancelled. They replaced that with small, weekly quizzes which I think is really helpful with retaining all the information you learn in the courses. Research participation is still the same and mandatory -- it's not biggie. There's some type of research analysis too for 102 (didn't have one in 100 IS) which is worth a little bit of your mark but I'm not too worried about it. The breakdown and marking of the course seem pretty fair too.

I'm also taking PSYC X99 right now but I just switched into that class so hopefully it will be okay!

Is it ALL tutorials across all courses or just lower level? There are some upper level courses where w/o tutorial, the course is just absolute suicide (ie. memory and mind)

im pretty sure it was just tutorials in first year maybe second

further, to answer jaleds question, you might want to ask about specific courses....courses like PSYC 100 and 102 are intro courses and bound to be easy

classes like psyc 280 which is a b-sci is basically like a bio class

I'm actually not sure. PSYC X99 still has tutorials so I'm guessing maybe just PSYC 100/102?

    Does psyc x99 have a b-sci credit?

Yeah, it does. That's why I'm taking it.

SO MAD THOUGH!!! I just enrolled in it on Thursday night and I have an assignment due tomorrow apparently. I don't even have the bloody textbook. I sent a desperate-sounding email to my TA. Hopefully she'll allow an extension...?

I wonder if thats why that class still has the tutorial.

I'm writing a 500 word essay right now due tomorrow, and I still havent managed to finish the readings for my other 4 classes, I'm in for a fun semester.

    500 page?!!! that's a novel you're writing.. not an essay.. @_@
  • edited September 2008
Word**** wow what was my mind thinking, i'd have to be a PhD student for it to be 500 page haha

    PSYC X99 is Tough
I regret enrolling Now I cant swap it as per the due date :S
I am desperate to drop but they will take away my Scholarship
    I feel trapped now :@

I have a Psyc minor...the lower division classes like 100 and 102 are a piece of cake as long as you read the text book. The upper division classes aren't much harder as long as you take something your slightly interested in. I focused on interpersonal/social relations. I figured that we are all social people and we like to have friends, so exploring the psychology behind that would be interesting, and it was! When I would write my essays I had lots of real world experience to draw from and I was genuinely interested in the material we learned in class, which wasn't even that hard.

You can still get into classes with the permission of the department and/or professor. Just gotta hustle a little

It's pretty easy so far... What's so hard about it? If you're not into writing than I guess I can understand why. It's annoying to have all these written summaries due every week.

I am doing good with the summaries but as english is not my first language I have like use dictionary for every other word so it eats all my time which has started to affect my other subjects.

Ive been in plenty of classes where after a few weeks I wanted to drop and doubted my ability to succeed in the course...just get through it, it will make you stronger.
