Usually anything with a W after the course number means that it is writing intensive. Maybe a lot of essay writing.

W = writing is more important
I took pol 101w and the prof said that the only difference between pol101w and pol101 was that the essay was worth more of the overall grade. a few of the tutorials focused on writing the essay as well.

You probably won't have a choice of taking the non-writing-intensive one... if the course has the W option, usually it's the only option =P

Do not take PHIL 100W. You will die, as did I.

while others thrive in that course :P
I don't get all the hate for phil, it seems like the number 1 hated subject, even more so than cmpt165
