Well, for one, taking W courses is not an option, it is a requirement. You have to take at least one lower level W course and an upper level W course during your academic career up at SFU.
As someone who been through the best and worse of SFU, I'll recommend you to STAY THE FUC* away from English and Philosophy unless your program requires it. There are much easier courses than those to fulfill your WQB. For example, if you like Classical Mythology, I'll recommend HUM-102W: Classical Mythology for your lower level W courses. As for upper level courses, just take one from your program (whatever it maybe).

I'm taking HUM 102W now and we got the syllubus today and it seems like very simple assignments, so I would recommend it as well.
I have a question about the W and Q requirements, do we have to complete them BOTH within our first 2 years (60 credits)? I'll be done my Ws by this semester but I have a feeling I'll have a hard time getting into the Q classes I want until my 3rd year... =T
it says in the WQB requirements when you have to take them
some requirements you have to take in upper division and lower division
also generally, to satisify your Q requirements, youre forced to take research methods courses...make sure youre not taking extra classes you wont need
always check whats required for your degree, then satisify the remaining WQB not satisifed by your group a (Required) classes

Lol Syllabus... don't base your impressions of a course on the syllabus...
You'll be burned and screwed over if you do. Sure the syllabus makes it look easy, but when you get hit with the assignments and exams... hard as fuck.
I took English 101w too, but it wasn't a lot of reading: 3-5 short stories per week. Three 500 word essays and one 1200 essay + final exam. Not very easy but not super hard either.

Not to say HUM 102W isn't easy, but you know.
BTW, you have taken an upper level W already? You do know that one of your W has to be an Upper Level course, right?
