Opinions on Expensive Shoes?

edited September 2008 in General
Whats anyones opinion or experience. Is it worth it to buy a 300, 400 or 500 dollar pair of shoes, if you like the way they look and cant find a half price alternative generic brand?

    $500?!

I consider anything over $70 to be too expensive.. but then, I'm a guy.

The most I would spend on a pair of shoes is $100, and I consider even that a lot of money... so no I don't think it's worth it.

I have a pair of harry rosen's for about 450..

I bought those because I couldn't find a generic alternative, I simply like the way they looked. I don't regret it and I find that it was well worth it.

I think if you like a really expensive pair of shoes and you know that you wont like anything else in the generic variety, then yeah.. go for it. Just make sure you dont regret it? lol

Probably no as it's not practical to my lifestyle. An exception would be anything by Christian Louboutin, however. But I have yet to do that!

What are you planning on buying?
  • edited August 2008
It depends on the kind of shoe...if it's a black pump (that's also comfortable!) than I would invest so to speak because it can be worn on so many different occasions (work, out, casual, etc).
But I can usually find great shoes for a decent price so it's not a huge issue.

If you really like the pair of shoes, have the money, and willing to spend it, then of course you should buy it. Money is for spending anyways..

    http://www.intrends.com/1x6736nero.html

of course id be buying in store, im not going to overpay for something counterfeit or i cant get a refund on if it breaks, i was looking on south granville and holt renfrew today and those two i liked

expensive shoes especially those around the $400-500 price range is what i consider an as investment.. so make sure those are going to last you a long time and will not go out of style in next two years or so.. so like nicole said.. something like a black pump would be something worth investing cause there are bound to be occasions where you can/need to wear them..

ps: second pair is my pick.. =P
  • edited August 2008
Neither are really my style, but I like the second one better.
  • edited August 2008
id agree on the second one for going out, i agree black is always good as well...the first would only be for work anyway, i have to dress formal
  • edited August 2008
Not my style either, but the 2nd one is my pick as well.

    Prada lady, eh?
  • edited August 2008
well the few pairs of shoes i have are not worth more than 100 each, so this would be a big step up

i just figure im getting closer to being an adult so why not, but at the same time im thinking of all the other stuff i can buy with the same amount of money

like lots and lots of alcohol?

You can find work shoes that are grown-up and still cute.
I just got a pair of mid-heel leather pumps from Le Chateau for work (who knew?) that are actually super comfortable and obviously affordable.

It's on the second outfit from the left.

If you happen to be going down to the States any time soon, the shoes there are a LOT cheaper, not only because of the lower prices but because they always have awesome sales. I bought 6 pairs of heels last time I went to Portland July! But then again, the American dollar is stronger now, so it might not be worth it.

Seattle Premium Outlets...so many shoe stores. It's worth the gas!

For $500, I expect that shoe to last a decade. BTW, I do have a pair of $400 shoe, funny it's not a dress shoe or casual shoe.

Well I do agree with you $100 is pushing it when it comes to shoes for a lot of people. But if $100 is too expensive for a pair of shoe, where do you buy your shoes?
  • edited August 2008
lol.. i wouldn't go as far as saying they are hideous.. just more traditional and conservative.. =P

The most expensive pair of shoes I have are UGGs that I got for $150 regular price at Nordstrom. Other than that, most of my shoes range from $30 to $90... good brand-name shoes are not hard to find if you're willing to wait for a sale or shop at the outlets. I usually buy at Nine West, they're no Jimmy Choo's but they're good enough. I almost NEVER buy shoes at regular price. Actually, I almost never buy anything regular priced =)

Why not buy something else with that money and wait til you fully become an adult? (graduation gift to yourself!)

Or go to B2/Browns for cute shoes that's $200 cheaper. Winners sometimes has some Stuart Weitzman pumps and Juicy loafers.

$500+" shoes " should only be used in the context of RIMS for a car...

    Keyword: ONLINE STORES.

    http://www.cutesygirl.com/

I buy a bunch of stuff from that store. I got a pair of boots that were SUPPOSED TO BE $500 for $80.

And I understand the concern you'd have for buying something you've never seen before--this store has a good reputation... and I've always liked what I got from there. I've received the most praises for items from here.

Hmm. Remember that when you buy IN STORE or from a NAME BRAND, you are paying over 75% just for the brand or for the franchise for being the promoter or the middleman. Cutsey Girl basically cuts out the middleman and sells you items at close to no profit. Me no like brand names--be your own promoter, don't let brands speak for you. :teeth:

Note: It also helps that Cutesy Girl has shoes from SIZE 5!!!! Most stores don't give me the same amount or quality of products at size 5.

I would not spend half this much on a pair of shoes even if I were a millionaire.

edit: Scratch that, even if I had an infinite supply of money, I would not spend that much

Shoes are the hardest things to find for me.

    1) They must be comfortable
    2) They must fit perfectly
    3) They must be pretty

If they don't meet these requirements, I won't buy them.
It doesn't matter if they're $50 or $500, same standards.
This is why I rarely buy shoes online (once).

If they're not comfortable, they're not worth it.

    Same opinion on $1000 purses.

Not worth a few slabs of leather.

I can justify $500 for an iPod (to an extent), or some high-tech cellphone or a PS3 or 360 but can't say the same for a pair of shoes. You know how many engineers work together for years just to develop these things? All that hard work, time and money these guys spent on education? I can appreciate the work they put into these complex devices.

A purse or a pair of shoes? Some hobo off the street can draw something, slap a name brand on it and charge you $1000 for it. Can't really justify some no talent "fashion designer" hack to draw up a few designs and charge you $1000s for it. These things on serve you one function, something to put on your feet or carry. Electronics can serve many functions even if they're primarily built for one. $1000 purses and "Fashion Designers" are scams.

Its all how you look at it. I'm sure you're paying at least 200% markup on your piece of machinery.

Which will last you what, 2-4 years until it becomes obsolete?

Shoes can last the same amount of time, and if you go out more often than you sit home playing video games you can get the same use out of shoes.

I personally would not pay anything like 1000 dollars for a purse, but shoes are different.
