Econ question!

edited August 2008 in General
Which one is better to take first, econ 103 or 105? does it really matter which one to take first?
Also, which of these professors are better?Vasyl Golovetskyy, Nebile Barkin and Leslie Marshall?

Leslie is the bomb, I took 103 with him. Take whichever one you can get into that's being taught by the best prof!

I remember 103 was more about concepts and 105 was more about math.

so which of the econ professors are good?
by good, i mean they teach well, help students a lot, fair or easy exams, don't mark too hard/

You can look up each prof's reviews right here. Get as familiar with this site as you can.

i took 105 first before taking 103 cause i thought it would be better to understand stuff from the global perspective (which is what 105 does) before getting into the details of 103 as i found 103 more has more stuff that you can relate to small businesses and firms.. but that's just how i learn.. go from big picture to small details.. i find it easier that way..

it really makes no difference, even tho they are both econ courses, the material does not really overlap to where there is an advantage to take 1 b4 another

i dont think it makes a difference.
i took 105 first with David Cox (who I believe is teaching in Spring 2009) and he was organized and had great notes, then 103 with Doug Allen.
i found 105 easier than 103 but ended up having a way better grade in 103
a bunch of my friends took 103 (with Doug Allen) first and then took 105 (.. i dont remember the prof's name - but he was bald -they took it in Spring 2008 - my frd's TA told them to drop the course) but they still ended up having a higher grade in 105 than 103 because of the bell-curve

but yes, 103 is more concepts and 105 is more math

I heard from several people that he's better at writing textbooks than he is at teaching.

Most of my frds took Doug Allen
it's either you love him or hate him.

    textbook = lecture
HOWEVER, you'll understand and remember the concepts better if you do go to lectures.
i personally liked going to his lectures, and mine was at 930 in the morning and i didnt sleep!

i had a friend that had akbar
the midterm was sooooooooo easy that everyone aced it
    the final was okay

my TA (she was majoring econ) said that she didnt have Doug Allen and that from reading his textbook for the first time, a lot of his principles and concepts were taught in the 300-level econ courses that she took
so it might be a good idea to take Doug Allen if you are major econ.
