TalkSFU Chat - attempt 2?

edited October 2008 in General
Noticing that school is starting up, and activity on the forum has definitely increased, should we give the Meebo chat another chance?

It's basically a web-page based chata, very simple, doesn't hog computer resources, and allows for a different style of interaction.

It worked well the first time, until some irresponsible members decided to throw bans around the chatroom with the intention of just ' testing ' the function.

You can read more about it here :
http://www.meebo.com/rooms/about/

So basically just vote on this poll, YES or NO, whether you'd participate and support the chatroom.

I think a chat is a way to get to know each other better, but takes away from the forum dynamic.

I think you trade off forum activity for more depth.

I'd be down for chat, but I think an IRC channel would be a bit better. Meebo is a little odd.

Speaking of the old meebo TalkSFU room, the link is http://www.meebo.com/user/illicit_talksfu/room.

However, it would be better if a new room is made. That way Iran1988, who was purportedly IP banned, may join in on the fun.

The reason i choose meebo is because it's easier to set up/access/use without the need for downloading a client, and then entering address information and registering for a nickname, then more commands to finally join the server. In addition to the fact that it doesn't take as much ' computer knowledge ' to join the meebo room. Please keep in mind, not everyone here is internet-chatroom-inclined when it comes to this stuff.

The link to the room would be this one: http://www.meebo.com/room/talksfu/
password would be still the same: fraser

Does it have to be text chat?

With the number of people we have, I think a voice chat would be more fun.

    Does anyone use Skype here?

For socially retarded people like me, even online chatting is as hard to carry out as a normal conversation.

    good riddance.
