I have experience with similar formalities. Basically, they try and stretch the process out for as long as possible (up to 6 months) to turn you away from proceeding.
If you're willing to go through a very time consuming, nerve wrecking procedure and possibly making some bad impressions on people that you'll later be talking to get your other stuff sorted out, then go for it (word spreads around that so and so likes to complain). I'd consider just investing that time into studying for next semester.
I mean if you think you should get a C- its not that far away from a D...further, I don't know how you could almost fail that class to begin with
As mentioned above, by doing this you may be making some enemies along the way, one of the most common things I hear from profs "dont beg me to pump your grade up from a c- to a c etc", you got the mark you got, and unless youre debating an error in the entry of marks you're SOL.
You're going to need to make the case:
Have a copy of the marks you received, and how much each component of the class is worth, and why you think this is incorrect in relation to the rubric for the course...I mean, by saying you think you should have a higher mark, will just be ignored. Its a first year class and they wont care.
The only thing you can get from the prof is your final exam mark which should be the only thing you have no copy of.
I can understand why you'd want AT LEAST a C- cause a C- is the passing grade. You don't pass with a D.
Besides, a D is 1.00 and a C- is 1.667, the difference between a D and a C- is basically two letter grades (each letter grade goes up by 0.333 increments).
That aside, you took this last semester? Summer with Erickson? I'm not sure how you managed to fail this course. The class average was like 73% so I don't think he scaled it much (I was expecting a B- and got a B+). If you got a D after he curved it, you've been doing something wrong.

exactly, he said at least, theres a giant difference between a c- and a b+. if you aren't even sure what your grade should be then a grade appeal wont even be looked at
And I though my experience with POL 100 was bad. Judging by your post count, I am guessing that you are a first year who took the wrong course at the wrong time. You still got 4 more years ahead of you and that D is not going to be of significance down the road. Unless you genuinely thinks that your Professor or TA made some major blunder with calculating your mark, I'll rather you let this drop and focus on working hard for future courses instead of pre-occupying yourself with your fight against this professor.

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A D is a pass. Some departments must have a C- minimum for requirement completion though, lol.
It pretty much means that anything less than a C- don't worth *hit, unless you are taking it only for credits.
I'm not trying to be a total bitch it it's realistic. Even if you get it bumped up from a D to a C- or even a C, its going to down your GPA.
I am guessing that kenwkto took POL 100 for the B-Social Science and W and he would get neither of those with a D.
Retaking the course is the best bet. Especially in the beggining of your academic career, thats a CGPA killer
Not my diagnosis. I'll rather prescribe him some easy, laid back B and W course to get him back on track. The worst thing a bad CGPA could do to a first year who can bounce back with a vengence is bad regisration date.
Thanks for the reply guys. I got what I wanted. Yes, this semester has been hectic because I was dealing with some personal issues. I'd never go down the same path again, never ever.
Most people are happy to pass. You just need to make sure your CGPA is 2.00 or above. Re-taking a course that you've passed is a waste of time and money and I think you only get 5 re-takes total anyways.

Why don't you just retake the class?
if u think u deserved a C- INSTEAD....u obviously know u f*cked up this class.
unless there was an error in the marking...there is no reason for appeal IMO
