Place downtown to go for a drink after school/work

edited September 2008 in General
I'm looking for places to go for a casual drink with friends. Something that will have a coffee shop environment (where you can talk) but that also serves alcohol and has good background music and a hip atmosphere (I like to dress well and wouldn't want to stand out from the crowd)

So far I'm leaning towards Steamworks by the Waterfront Station. The restaurant lounge with live music on the higher floor of Pan Vancouver Hotel is also very hip albeit 50+ year old crowd and pricey drinks (~$10 for a Manhattan).

Anybody has any recommendations?

most people just go to the cambie on cambie, or on that place that was also called the cambie on seymour

its pretty cheap at the cambie on cambie, i dont know if they have coffee and its not really all that hip, but its popular

I love Steamworks! I was there on Saturday and easily spent $30 on drinks.

If you're looking for cheap drinks, I highly recommend Cafe Crepe. Yummy crepes AND cheap alcohol. What more could you ask for?

    Thanks guys!

The reviews for hapa izakaya are amazing! I can't remember if I've ever been there (I might be confusing it with Guu with Garlic)

I need to check out this cambie place though, never been there!

GloBal Lounge...but it's more in Yaletown

Downtown I usually just go to Robson, like Moxies

well the two are basically across the street from each other and about 1 or 2 blocks apart. if it was a very lively colorful place that was loud with servers shouting orders to the chefs, it was guu with garlic. if it was a dark and sophisticated black woodgrain interior with a very posh feeling, it was hapa.

Some of my favorite places are YBC (yaletown brewing company, i think on mainland) It has a restaurant and a pub.. In Yaletown also George has a good reputation for drinks..

At Granville Island there's the Sand Bar
If you like live music from the east coast, there's the Atlantic Trap and Gill or davie and burrad
