This is for all u CS ppl...can any of u hook me up with a copy of vista/xp u didnt use, or can one of u buy me a copy off the microsoft developer network thing...PLEASE!!!!
It's an iso image and you can burn as many as you want. You just have to bring the blank dvd's. Also, that will only get you as far as the install. To register it as a legal copy with updates n' stuff, you'll need to get a CS major to go to the MSDNAA website, log in to some section of it, and copy down their key.
ok so where do i find a cs major, and is this one of those corporate keys where you can use the same one over and over again or they give you a new one every time
They can usually be found with laptops huddled around the power outlets in the ASB. While the CS major is a solitary creature, they may occasionally gather and form social groups known as "D+D meetings".
Oh, and the keys are fresh. Each person gets a new one.
last time i checked (last semester) there's 2 XP keys and 1 Vista Business key.
a friend says the MSDNAA accounts are reset every semester, so they get new keys every semester. I have absolutely no clue if it's anywhere near true or not.
Now, the MSDNAA keys are technically only supposed to be used by people enrolled in MSDNAA, an installation with a key during the period could still be used after it ends, but you're not supposed to do new installations with it.
Oh and everyone enrolled in a cmpt course gets access to MSDNAA, not just majors.
Of course there's also the obligatory 'you should go buy a license'. Home Premium OEM is only $130 at NCIX, I'm sure you could find it cheaper elsewhere. Or if you only need the upgrade, it's $100 at Staples.
so ive been looking at cmpt classes for a while, whats the easiest one, cuz i dunno jackshit bout programming and all that. What about cmpt 155? I would rather have home premium than business so is that copy from nciz only one installation or more?

all windows editions are single client. The OEMs are tied to one computer, so you (technically) can't transfer it from one computer it's already installed on to another, but the retail licenses are client-transferable as many times as you want, plus one time owner-transfer (i.e. you could sell it to someone else after uninstalling it from your computer).
Unless you use media center, Business is better than Home Premium.
I would personally avoid the sketchy stuff and buy a legit copy. I bought XP Pro SP2 from the Microstore a while back and got a surprise - XP 64bit also came with it so I got two for the price of one - separate product keys and everything.
Also bought a new laptop recently and am using the legit Vista on it.
Also, OEM Versions of Vista are fine, my brother has such a one given him by my other brother and no telephone activation was required to get it set up and running.
That all having been said I am aware that $100 is a lot to some people and to those, I can only say I'm sorry, I don't know how to help unless you're willing to run some form of Linux or FreeBSD.
If I'm enrolled in a CMPT course and I download a copy/install it, will I still be able to use the MSDNAA CD-key once I'm finished with the course? Or is the CD-key like a trial key and set to expire after 4 months from the beginning of the school term?
For anyone who doesn't want to take a CS course, you can also join the ACM for $20 and get the same access to windows and a bunch of other MS software.

and do they limit how many u take? cuz i cant log into those computers, so im gunna be using a buddies account

Anyways, your license won't expire.
