Education major?

edited August 2008 in General
What do you do with an education major? Actually, what do you do with a PhD in Education?

Science majors can teach science, Math majors can teach math, English majors can teach English, and etc.

What does an education major teach? Education? Everything? Why choose a education major when you can specialize in something else and teach it back?

And a PhD in Education!? What the hell do you do with a PhD in education?

I think an education major is for people who want to teach in high school or elementary school. You basically take all the courses for a major in another department and then take some education courses on top.

I think a PhD in education can be really useful in many fields. Basically you've learned how people learn and what are the best ways to teach people. So perhaps you could work for the ministry and develop curriculum of elementary/high school etc. or work in the private sector and work with adult learning. I know some PhDs in education work in consulting fields where they help companies train employees since they know how people learn they'd know what type of training strategies would be best for employees.
