edited July 2008 in General
due to some weird sketchy stuff It appears that I wont have my tuition money wired to me from Iran (due to their bank being all weird and sketchy) for .. well.. quite a damn long while...

I'm talking like.. November... is when I recieve it.

So... am I royally screwed...? Or can I pay for my tuition in November :|

(I don't qualify for a loan... so.. that's out of the question :( -- I tried)

You can defer it that long but there will be late fees.
  • edited July 2008
Or defer your admission NOW! Take January semesters.
  • edited July 2008
2% per month its late or something?
won't be able to enroll for spring till its paid though
thats usually in november if i recall, lol

I'd rather not defer my admission, i'd much prefer to go now...

2 percent late fee's on a 1716.31 tuition per month is okay i guess...

    I hate Iranian banks.

It's not racist. Islam isn't a race. It's a religion. And mockery of religion is always welcomed.

    my thoughts exactly..
people are just too sensitive these days..

is it just the tuition alone? or does that lump of money include your living expenses? if it's just the tuition.. cut your spending and start saving till school starts.. you could also consider getting a job.. that'll bring in some extra cash..

I am so sorry to hear this, I hope you can somehow get through this. However, I strongly urge you to keep some saving incase problems like this ever arose again. Also, it is quite dangerous for you to rely only on an overseas account for money. I mean, what would happen if some major shi* happened in Iran?

I was thinking. Would it be possible for you to take only the amount of courses that you can afford right now? That way, you should get by until November. Ok sure, you'll be behind, but at least it is better than paying late fees or having your admission offer revoked.

Don't you have at least $1800 at your disposal at the moment? What about selling off some "surplus" possessions?

Part of the problem is, if Iran1988 is not a Canadian citizen, the law usually prevents them from being able to get a job, as I understand it.

(I know one of the major complaints by foreign grad students was the limited job opportunities available precisely because of legal restrictions like this. I believe the rules have been eased a bit since then but it could still be a concern for the OP.)

In one case (me) I didn't pay off all of my tuition in Summer '04 and actually ended up working in the Fall and paying off the due balance during that semester to be able to register for spring, heh. :)

So as long as iran1988 has paid his/her registration deposit he/she should be OK IMO.

But YMMV and I am not an SFU official by any means, so caveat emptor etc.

Well it was supposed to be around 17-18 grand that I was supposed to have wired my way from my dad.. some for tuition.. the rest for expenses and whatever.

Now that none of that is coming till november (as estimated by my father - this has happened before).. I have literally no money. So im broke.

I have maybe like.. 250 from my past wiring left.. so that will be just enough for my books, and I have that right now in my chequing account.

Visa... is my dads, he has it over there..

    I can't sell anything..

Part of this was answered in my post above this one, as for the overseas thing, apparently if you wire more than 10 grand or something you get heavily taxed. My dad's stubborn, he said he would rather prefer it be overseas than taxed like crazy. :|'

edit: I had to pretty much spend like hours convincing him to send me the amount he's doing which is coming in november... i have no idea how much he was taxed or if this tax thing is true or whether or not he made it up.

I am a citizen, but I've never had a job here before. I mainly just want to study to finish what I want to do and go back to either my country or Dubai. I never really considered the prospect of getting a job, but I guess I have to now..

Since when is the muslim religion a race. If you feel a race is imbued with religion you have some deep racist / superiority issues to work out.
