Why isn't SFU accepting credit cards again?

edited July 2008 in General
Why is SFU changing their payment policy to not accept credit cards for the fall 2008 semester and onwards? Is it due to fraud? come on, we are in the 21st century. I can even pay for my toilet paper online with my credit card but not my tuition? This is a big chunk of change and I want to earn my air miles/points with my card but now I can't? WHY SFU WHY?!?

because SFU has to pay Visa/MC/Amex every time somebody pays tuition by credit card. SFU needed to save some money so they removed this payment option.

Good point, but very stupid (not you, sfu I mean). The corner store down the street takes my credit card for a $1 chocolate bar and SFU is being so cheap they wont pay the fees to the C.C. companies.

Yes I know the CC companies probably charge more for a higher amount of transactions, but come on, this is a university. Soon they will make us bring candles to school so they can save money on electricity.

Try telling that to the arts students.

The school DID just lose a big chunk of government funding.

    hello common sense, anyone? No?

would you rather have them save money on this or on something directly related to your courses?

suck it up and write a cheque.

uh who the hell writes cheques this isnt the 80s.

Pay online with bank transfers ;) if you don't have online banking yet then you should because as an adult you should have it in this modern day and age.

I personally think SFU has many other ways to cut their budget *cough*
They're giving free tuition away to any full time staffs children among other things. I mean great for those kids, but how much does that add up to if supposedly the tuition fees I pay don't even cover my full tuition.

Also, you can still pay before for this semester with credit card. Just pay before September 1.

Well I guess a lot of you haven't moved out of home yet ;) but trust me, if you're a young adult you should have online banking...how else do you pay your phone bills? Or your credit card bills for that matter.

Do you have any idea how much it costs the university to do credit card payments? This is probably the smartest thing the uni could do because you have to pay your tuition one way or another, so cutting credit card payment won't cost them income, while saving tens of thousands (or was it hundreds of thousands? meh). What's really stupid is that we started accepting credit card payment on the same day UBC cancelled it because of the cost.

Although of course it's less convenient, and it costs me an extra $10 bucks or so (no more credit card reward points), I'd rather have them spend the money on actual education.
