Finishing Your Degree Quickly: Hot or Not
Over the course of my family gathering in Toronto, I was repeated asked by my family to attend next summer's family gathering. They told me that we are going to go to cruise in the Eastern Mediterranean and tour the Aegean Seas, something a "History major like myself will enjoy." My family, ever the master manipulator, tells me that I have plenty of time to go to school and that I should "give-face" to my uncle, who is paying for the trip, by attending. They also tell me that my two girl cousins need me there to be a source of amusement because my elder cousin is "no longer as fun" now that he is in a relationship.
Deep down, I will admit that after all the midterms, papers, and exams, I do want a vacation and that a cruise in the Mediterranean indeed is something a "History major like myself will enjoy." However, I do not want to delay my graduation by yet another semester now that my graduation has already been delayed to Spring 2010, thanks to the mandatory family gathering this summer. Also, the summer semester is a good time for me to catch up on any courses I wasn't able to take due to full courses, something we are all familiar with. And finally, I have been wanting to go on exchange to either University of Ottawa or Dalhousie University and the next summer is a good time for it.
So yeah, TalkSFUers, should I delay my graduation by yet another semester by attending next summer's family gathering? Do you think finishing your degree quickly is hot or not? Your advices will play a considerable influence when it is time for me to decide rather I will go or not.

I personally want to finish school quick because I do not enjoy it, it consumes my time, and takes away from the amount of time I can work at my job.
Therefore; I want to get out of school as soon as possible.
If I did not have to have a job though, I would probably not mind stretching the experience out if I had time, and the money. I personally think that a trip like that is once in a life time and you won't see these people as much or ever again as you get older.
It all depends on your priorities. Some people like being in school, some don't. From reading your reasons I don't see a pressing reason for you to graduate sooner than later.
Personally, I think if you graduate you may not even have time to do stuff like what is being offered to you due to career obligations or other things that will come up.
but seriously u can hold off ur degree for one semester, like randomuser said its a once in a lifetime kinda thing...and since ull probably get into a career right after you finish school which means ull never have a summer break again :|
Show them what you've got.
I want to finish my degree and get my own life so my family can no longer infringe upon mine. It will certain give them more incentive to get out of my life. Afterall, if I'll die in 5 years, I want to be buried with my BA and they understood my determination. I don't really have to worry about these problem because
1.) My whole family is surprisingly wealthy (don't ask me where their wealth came from) and they have family gathering almost every summer.
2.) I skipped last year's trip because they went to Japan, a place I went to before. Therefore, it is not really once in a life time. I wouldn't worry too much about this because my two oldest cousins are now working and they can still find time to go to family vacation. We have a family gathering almost every single year.
