I heard intro language courses are also gpa boosters. I've never tried taking any since I don't have the heart to learn a completely new language.

i heard the intro german class was super easy

hey guys...im just wondering if ling 200 is considered as a gpa booster course...coz i heard its easy...but kinda not certain about it
  • edited June 2008
Hey guys, has anybody taken SA 100 or SA 101...if so how'd you find it?
  • edited June 2008
Yeah the Intro German class is very similar, at least for me since it is so similar to English and that my family is from Austria.

CMPT 363 is also a joke of a class, there is no programming in there either.

I'm looking for 2 easy Science and Quantitative courses (each, so 4 courses total) to fulful my Bachelor of Arts requirements, any suggestions? I'm thinking:
    CMPT 165 for science
PHIL XX1 and PHIL 110 for quantitative
    Are they easy courses?

If you are in arts, you are going to do horrible in cmpt 165.
  • edited June 2008
Don't take a PHIL course for quantitative... especially since they're logic based courses.

And more especially since you're in Arts.

I think you're better off taking math or a programming course for quantitative. Yea theres logic too but it's not pure logic.

How is CRIM 220, KIN 140 and ENGL 106W?

Entering my first year, but I want to work at my WQB requirements.
  • edited June 2008
if Crim 220 is Research methods do not take that class unless you are a crim major its awful, if its criminal law just has hard but you can get an A if you study the stuff well

    I didn't take math 12 though... I hate math with a passion =p
Most CMPT needs Math 12 but I was planning on taking CMPT 165 since it didn't need Math 12, but a lot of people are saying arts students won't do well in it.

You won't do well in cmpt if you don't have the basic skills (i.e. logic, but not the formal phil110 sort), if you're good at making sense of a series of instructions, take it.

Right now I am planning on a major in crim... and yeah it is research methods, why do you think its awful? I picked that because it meets "Quantitative" requirement.

It's either one of these for quantitative in Crim classes.

CRIM 220-3 Research Methods in Criminology
CRIM 320-3 Quantitative Research Issues in Criminology

Any research course sucks. I've spent the last few weeks doing an assignment for one of my CMNS research courses and I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface!
  • edited June 2008
well if youre in crim you have to take both actually so if you need your Q credit youre stuck taking it.

you have to take three research methods classes, 220, 320 and 321 ;)

if youre not a crim major id just not reccomend taking it, because its an awfully boring class and noone likes it

    What kind of logic, then?

Should I take PSY X99 for my science instead? =T

if you could make sense of this:
    ++++++++++[>+++++++>++++++++++>+++>+<<<<-]>++.>+.+++++++..+++.>++.<<+++++++++++++++.>.+++.------.--------.>+.>.
    you're good to go.

In all honesty though, (I can't even make sense of the above without using a debugger :P)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xhtml
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascading_Style_Sheets
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Python_(programming_language)

That's what you'll learn in cmpt165, look up some code samples & tutorials, if you understand those you should definitely take the course.

I don't understand that code you posted... but for the CHTML and CSS stuff I use to play around with that 2-3 years ago when I was making layouts for my blog =p But I've always copied and pasted it from places and just changed some of the stuff, like the colours and whatever, haha.

    WRONG!!!
    I love research courses

I even took all the research courses in Sociology, lol (well the 200 and 300 level ones)

    That wasn't even code.

If you can make sense of this, you'll ace CMPT 165. Guaranteed A+. It's a known fact that this is single-handedly the easiest course at SFU, practically a free A. No effort required besides handing in the assignments.

    x = 1
    if x > 0
    x += 1
    else
print \"x is less than 1\"

    Yes it was. CompSci Fail.

Actually I somehow got as low as an A-, which shocked the hell out of me, but on the final exam there was a few things I didn't even think to study (Wait, I didn't study at all...)

Also the 'code' the other guy posted is in a language called Brainfuck, which has no practical use.. at all....

What the hell is wrong with you? But I guess once you take one the rest should basically be the same thing and your marks will reflect that.

you never know with triple, maybe he does like research methods courses

    I love research, lol.

I won't have a career in it since my grades are average, but I still love it.

ummm buddy, dont listen to that CMPT 165, is a course on its own. I got an A in accounting A in MIS and a C+ in CMPT 165, this is me, a guy whos played around with a shit load of html.

The thing with CMPT 165 is that if you have a shit professor i.e. Greg Baker, you will get pwned. So when you take it, look at ure prof. OH AND NEVER TAKE IT DISTANCE ED!

BUT!!! for other wicked gpa boosters:

    Educ 100

    IAT 100
  • edited July 2008
i agree with clutch, the only people that say CMPT 165 is a GPA booster are people who are computer science majors and quite bias, or people with experience

do not take it DE with Greg Baker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you take it DE take it with anne lavergne
