Hardest subject in Arts?

edited June 2008 in General
Well I was listening to some music I downloaded from this site (Thanks DJStylez! ;) and I got to thinking, which major do you think is the hardest in the faculty of Arts? I know Arts is not nearly as hard as sciences, but some classes like Psychology are quite scientific in the methods they use so I find it challenging. I have not taken any crim or sociology classes, so what do you guys think is the hardest Major??

Just in response to your comment there (I'm not directing my annoyance at you in particular, just a general gripe I have)...I find it really quite annoying when people say how much harder the sciences are than arts. It's far too much of blanket statement...while I agree that some arts faculties (e.g. communications, criminology) aren't particularly difficult...I don't buy it that science majors have to work any harder to be successful. If I'm reading 300 pages + doing an assignment per week, in addition to preparing a 15 page research paper and studying for a midterm and final for one class...how can people figure that as an arts student I have it easier?

    amen to that mcrammy!

while some majors/subjects are perceived as harder than others, i really think it's dependent on the person and what their individual strengths and weaknesses are.

In my opinion it all depends on what you're good at. Some people are scientific minded so they excel at courses like biology and chemistry while others are social minded so they excel at courses like psychology and criminology. Although both subjects are equally as important, science definitely requires a different set of skills which some consider to be harder. Just my 2Cents.

I agree! It really depends on the person, I'm in sciences and i find it rather easy. I'm really good at memorizing and grasping scientific theories and concepts but I couldn't for the life of me write an essay.. i hate english classes! and vowed never to take anymore then was required

hahahah I get in this debate at least once a month at school I still don't have a clue which is harder.

A sunject that's the "hardest" would be the easiest for someone else; there's no such thing as the hardest subject.

Hardest MAJOR in arts? That's easy.

    Math
  • edited June 2008
All the subjects in the arts are equally easy. I could do ten arts classes and still have a 3.5+ GPA. I take arts classes just to give me a break from harder stuff like maths and sciences.

    Same here.

whatever, you guys arent even in natural sciences

Do you know how HARD we try to stay awake in class? Our material is sometimes so not stimulating that we can barely keep our eyes open. Do you know the crap we have to sit through in our tutorials in seminars of other students contributing their idiotic subjectively based two cents to everything.

Us arts students are lucky to have our sanities in tact.

Applied science is still a science.

any arts class ive taken so far hasnt even required 5% of the studying ive done for my science classes.

its a science yet theres a distinction drawn by the university

    theres three tiers

    Natural
    Applied
    Arts

yall aint on the top ;)

if someone is physics wants to make fun of my program, by all means ill admit theres is probably way harder, but its all relative, some people excel in different areas, so none of you are in any position to criticize other peoples programs

if one of you can prove to me you can get an A+ in any faculty in every program you can bash arts all you want until then...

Oh, by the way, Computing Science is just applied Math.

    Ether: rep++

ill give more rep to people in pure math than sciences and applied sciences, i fail at math, STATS actually made me cry, and i failed a midterm and final exam (i heart curved classes)

Stats. was actually the easiest math course in high school, because you get to use graphing calculators. There's almost no math involved, just use the preinstalled "tests" on your calculators. All you have to do is BS about the data, plus it's always nice to memorize some basic formuals as well.

But, I failed Calculus in HS...

Why, we have more math classes to do that you can ever imagine: CALCULUS I, CALCULUS II, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math I, Discrete Math II, Numerical Analysis, Probabilities and Statistics.

You think your little art stats is hard? Try STAT 270.

Pure math is math just for the sake of math.

You know who made the cars you drive, the Internet you're posting on, and the iPods and cellphones you use? Science and Applied Science.

Says the person that calls CMPT 165 "hard" lol.

I'd rather not imagine the vast array of math courses SFU has to offer. I get goose bumps walking down that fourth floor math corridor in the AQ

So where does Engineering stand? > or < then Physics? Math?

Last time I took Math was in gr 12 AP Calculus. Well, I took stats, but that was easy.

It's somewhere between Eugenics and Phrenology.
  • edited June 2008
i'd guess engineering would be applied physics

How is it that I find Physics next to impossible but Calculus/Chem/Stats/Trig really simple?
