I find it funny that a lot of people never even talk about football (soccer is what I am refering to) until something big happens like Euro or the World Cup and then all of a sudden EVERYONE is into it. It is the same thing that happens when the Canucks make it to the playoffs and everyone is all of a sudden supporting them.

Well, technically throwing yourself behind an undefeated team like Portugal or the Netherlands now would be more comparable to hopping on the Canucks bandwagon during playoffs - in that they support whats being talked about the most. I dont think a passing interest during Euros/World Cup is the same thing. Plus, its not like we get soccer broadcasts regularly here.

PS: way to bump an old thread lol
PSS: Football (the one you play with your hands) sucks.

i hate those fake-ass soccer fans that come out every 2 years. They dont have any dedication to wtvr team they support, know nothing about the players/team, watched none of the qualifiers, but are self-proclaimed experts making there retarded predictions.
O ya..da noobie we get almost every game broadcast on regular cable..u just gotta be a big enough fan to wake up early to watch the games.
Over half the ppl on my msn have the team they apparently support written beside there name...disgusting

Why can't we just call it soccer? It doesn't make you seem any more cultured by calling it "football". It just confuses people. When someone asks me if I saw the football game, and they don't have a foreign accent, I immediately assume they are talking about American football, and so will every other 2nd or 3rd generation Canadian. This is common knowledge. When they go on to say that they are talking about "real football", I assume that they are just being a dick and trying to confuse me, or trying to seem more cultured. Either way, it just makes them look stupid.
