SFU Business vs. UBC Commerce

edited June 2008 in General
First of all, I'm not here to start a flame thread. I was planning of going to SFU Business, but recently, UBC just admitted me into their Sauders program. The scholarships are similar. I live very close to SFU but, I can still manage to get to UBC. I'm struggling to decide which university to go to.

For people who are in Business, how would you rate SFU's program? Anyone know anything about UBC's? I need an answer soon, because UBC's deadline to accept their offer is in a few weeks.

I'd go to SFU. I'm lazy and the quicker i can get to school the better.
But I don't care about what school is better and so on, haha.

    No it's not.

It is kind of suck that there isn't a reliable, third party, unbiased review of post secondary institutes out there. It is these reviews that would solve debates such as this.

The unfortunate thing is that, unlike cars, critics can't take either UBC or SFU out for a test drive and see the pros and cons of either school.

Oh look, the cest pool known as Discovery Vancouver forum has the exact same debate.

Go to UBC Commerce. It has a higher reputation.

    About the reputation bit...

University of British Columbia has without-a-doubt a much better reputation than Simon Fraser University. One of the reason is UBC's age, they are almost 100 years old while we barely passed 50. Also, UBC got some world class faculty while we embarassed ourselves by pissing off a world class faculty. Another reason is that UBC is A LOT more well known than SFU. For example, I was chatting with my cousin's friend in Toronto and they don't even know that SFU is a university. Also personally, SFU is becoming the new Langara due to our joke admission requirement.

In conclusion, please go to UBC.

Go to Princeton like a real man.

I would go to UBC. Besides the co-op program, their school is better in every aspect.

Any idea on which washroom he pissed on? I would very much like to avoid said washroom like herpes covered aids.

I thought SFU stood for "So F*cking Useless."

If we don't push up our admission requirement and regain some legitimacy, SFU will get a new nickname call "Stupid Fuc* University."

    I heard this year's cut-off for Business was 85%.

There's really no comparison. There's just as much Chinese people at both universities HAHAHA.

But seriously? SFU has a great Business Co-op program. UBC's co-op has 'under the table' fees you can't get tax returns on.

If you ask me, I'd rather go to SFU, you'll need the extra sleep, trust me.

That's always been the cut off for business.

And it's fucking low. I failed 2 courses in grade 12, and I still got into Business. It's not a very difficult faculty to get in.

From what I hear, the two business schools are almost the same (with SFU maybe a bit better) if you're looking on the basis of a good education. If you want reputation, go for UBC. However, I've had several friends of mine who were top students in high school and received scholarships to both schools, and they chose SFU.

I would choose SFU if you live close to the campus... trust me, you're going to get tired of commuting for 2 hours everyday very quickly. It'd be all right if you get a seat on the 99, but during peak hours you might find yourself standing on the bus for 40 minutes--no studying, no sleeping... just standing there wasting time. A lot of their exams are scheduled in the evening outside of lecture time too...

I dunno. Am I the only person here who doesn't hate SFU?!

I never quite understood why so many people hate sfu either...

    UBC > SFU

    Enough said.

I don't hate SFU really, but it's reputation is just really low. I transferred from a college, so SFU is already an improvement for me.

I like SFU, I am pretty Pro-SFU and definitely Pro-Rez.

I don't think the reputation is going to matter if you're going to work in BC.

But if you're going to work somewhere else... maybe.
