Help with job..

edited April 2008 in General
so I applied to a video game testers position at EA in burnaby (yea I know it sounds exciting), it pays 13/hour FULL-TIME

However.. one BIG catch..

its a six month contract... which means i would have to give up on summer 08 and fall 08 .....

I kinda dont wana miss out on school and be behind most of my peers (however i could take some 6 courses until i catch up.. never tried though) I kinda also feel like this is a little grown-upish (giving up school for full time) I may feel a little out of place since all my friends are definately attending school in the fall

If I do take this job.. this would mean I could pay for school for quite a while, and be financially independent for a while... if you work out the math.

Think this could be a good little jump start? im planning to major in interactive arts
hmm?

talk to them, maybe there's some way to get a part time option?

    p.s. hook it up

i knew someone who worked at EA as a tester also, you work A LOT of overtime

he moved up in the gaming world through his starting posistion but a lot of people who are testers never go beyond that, theres jobs that pay the same that wont require you to work 6 month contracts

    your choice

I heard that kind of work can be fun, but it can also really suck.

For example: checking every single soccer player in FIFA games to make sure they're wearing the right brand of shoes

just take a distance ed course a semester? what else are you going to do in your spare time, play video games?
  • edited April 2008
ok lame I know. But still, I think 1 distance ed per semester is manageable

I know someone who worked for EA too as a tester. He said it was so boring.

EA is a good company to work for; however, QA sucks ballz.

How did you get the job? I checked EA's job board, but I couldn't find any QA positions.

Thanks for the link man. I just fired off an email their way. How long did it take for them to respond to you?
  • edited April 2008
took like 1 hour, then you have to fill out prescreening and stuff and it took them like 2-3 days to reply again

Huh, it looks like it is for EA Burnaby. Mostly sports games... games which I don't play.
  • edited April 2008
yeah my friend coulda got me in but i didnt want to spend hours playing sports games and making sure noones left nut is looking larger than their right in their outfits

i dont really play or like video games much as is, but there was no way i could deal with sports games

and it looks like EA as sourced out their testing department or something it wasnt like that a few years ago

So you just play games 8 hours a day till you find a bug or glitch then report it to them and continue?
  • edited April 2008
i had friends do this b4, u play shitty games, find glitches/bugs and write lots of reports about everything

My friend is working there right now.
    He says it's great.
He gets 50% off games... all the games...
