The "smell" of a woman that turns a guy's head

Okay, so there are a few midterms I still have to finish but I just had to post a new thread about the smell of this girl or woman. I was sitting down studying for my midterms when this girl or woman walks pass by me and it wasn't until her scent made me turn my head. Usually I don't pay attention to theses things especially during midterm weeks but her odour really got my attention. Unfortunately by the time I smelled her perfume or what have you, she was already gone when I turned my head. *she left fast*

I'm just wondering does this happen to girls who smell guys as well?

Human pheremones are a myth. First, only males produce them, not females. Second, neither males nor females have receptors. The genes coding for pheremone receptors are dormant - the males still produce them in the underarms as an evolutionary remnant, but they go nowhere - women can't detect them. There was controversy about it as physiologists looked at the structure of the olfactory bulbs, but recent discoveries in genetics have put the question to rest: no activity, at any point in development, in those genes which are specialized for pheremone receptivity in chimps. It's not 100% put to bed, since there are some odd results from certain experiments done into whether people can subjectively identify the more "attractive" person without any other cues but smell, but I think this will eventually be attributed to something else.

That said, scent is still very important. Just not because of pheremones. Most perfumes are crap, some are kind of nice, but they're invariable the more mild ones. If you walk around smelling like a cinnamon heart, it's odd and synthetic and not attractive. There is something nice about the natural smell of a woman's skin, and hair. Though, I've never been able to detect it from a distance, mind you.

if a guy is wearing cologne it lets me know he cares about his appearance and cleanliness for the most part, its very appreciated, i really dislike people who cant take their personal hygeine seriously

Isn't NO smell better than cologne though? There is a midpoint between cologne and B.O. :) One can be cleanly without putting smelly chemicals behind their ears.

im going to remember the guy with cologne on as opposed to the guy who doesnt have bo, but has no scent.

that said not all colognes do it for me, but generally the guys with cologne are the ones i give a second look to if i didnt catch them at first

This topic of perfume is quite dear to my heart actually..haha...in a NON-creepy way of course..!!! I definitely appreciate girls that use perfume...and not just any kind...i'll loove the "sweeter" and "fruitier" smelling ones..hehe... i like it jus subtle...the wrong kind is a maaajor turnoff.

I also agree with randomuser that guys who use cologne generally care more about their appearance...

that correlation applies to me for suureee.

i take it the same via a female, even if it it's perfume, my ex used to always use this strawberry scented victoria's secret lotion and it worked just as fine.

Well, I've grown accustomed to my BF's smell, and anything that isn't his is just not the same =P It's like a mix of Old Spice and clean laundry

Cologne & perfume is buying a smell to attract others and reduce your own body odour. I guess that woman had perfume of some sort because it was potent. It'd be unfortunate that she wouldn't smell like that naturally everyday because her scent would be the initial reason of attraction. For example, you meet her and she smells so nice and then other days when you are with her, the smell is not there. oh well. I guess that applys with guys & cologne.

^hm... that's an interesting perspective.. buying smell to attract others.. i never would've thought of that.. my take on cologne/perfume is that the smell is used to set yourself apart from others.. to say you have a certain character or uniqueness.. so i try not to buy mainstream brands.. and go for the outlandish ones (that do smell nice) instead.. =\

one thing that bugs me though is perfume that smells like food.. eg: strawberry, vanilla or some really sweet smell.. those make me feel nauseous instantly... @_@

Off-topic, but I love that movie! Has anyone also seen this movie called Perfume? It's completely ridiculous, but it was kind of freaky too =\

Anyway, personally I don't wear any perfume... I live with my parents and my dad really hates any type of perfume. The only way around it is to make my hair and skin smell good hahaa... I guess it's better to keep it subtle anyway. The new Head & Shoulders smells REALLLLLLY good if people haven't tried it yet (apparently it's no longer just a dandruff shampoo).

As for cologne, I really like Lacoste Essentials and can recognize it from anywhere. Got it for my BF :teeth:

Some guys just smell really good. I think it's chicken and egg, though. Does the guy smell good because he's so good-looking and is just genetically blessed, or is he aware he's good-looking and therefore takes more pride in his appearance?

Not sure, but there was this gorgeous guy in high school who always smelled like cookies. lol.

I actually never finished watching the movie, but I heard about that... that's unreal lol. I can't tell if the movie was intended to be scary or if it was supposed to be a joke.
