u pass gets reversed i believe if you have less than 2 classes. i took one course in the summer last year and they charged it and then reversed it automatically later (there's a deadline to ensure you don't pick up more classes).
also the course fee is only in certain classes. for example in bio it covers field trips in some courses.

    What's the deal with a U-Pass?
I'm hoping to take a class at the Harbour Centre in the Summer (so I will be taking transit).
If I only take this one course, I don't qualify for a U-Pass?

If you do not live in Metro Vancouver (the GVRD) according to your SFU mailing address and are enrolled in only one on-campus class which meets one day or less per week throughout the term (as shown in the SFU Course Schedule), you will not be eligible for the U-Pass Program.

I have used my U-Pass a grand total of 2 times....and i still have to pay for the damn thing. It just sits in my wallet staring out at me and it never sees the light of day.

I used to use the gym at SFU, but that was about 2 years ago, and I didnt even go that often.

Its complete bullshit having to pay for stuff that we dont use.

i don't use u-pass at all, it's still in the envelope that it came in at the beginning of my semester, on top i pay for a parking pass, the gas, the car insurance, the SFU gym pass plus the gym membership i actually go to in richmond, however..

how about instead of complaining about these overhead costs the school puts on us, consider making more money instead?

I would be lost without my U-pass...

For the people who never or rarely uses a u-pass, you can always sell it to others.

I know, I took one course and it was around the same amount as yours. The 100 $ deposit fee didn't help either. ><

I'm taking one business class and doing Co-op this summer....$1,603. Kind of sucks how business classes are so much more expensive than all other others...About 150 more for a 3 credit class...that definitely adds up over your degree

Sure - sell your U-Pass and get caught doing this by TransLink (who operates "stings" on U-Pass sellers) and get fined $346! What a great deal!

careful now, sfu rentacops might be watching the forums and suspect you as a terrorist for making threats to sfu! :omg:

you might end up like that idiot from ubc making bomb threats.

    who knows?

Hey now! That's no comparison =P

i remember talking to a friend of mine outside one of the buildings about how the vpd plans on upgrading their arsenal in preparation for the 2010 olympics. this was some time after the VT incident so i guess that was stupid on our part but we got questioned by security, asked for id and told that we shouldnt be talking about such things (guns, light armored vehicles, knives, terrorist threats, strategic counter terrorism) because of what other people might think.

kinda gave us the feeling that because we're asian and we mentioned guns in a conversation we're the next set of university shooters.

they even asked to search our bags and asked us if we were in possession of any weapons.

i admit that punching sfu in the face and talking about the vancouver police department are different but ya never know.

we werent really talking out loud either more so just having a conversation to ourselves.

Hey, that's like the airport/airplanes for East Indians. I guess society has its way of balancing out racial profiling.

@ToddB: Do you have to pay for co-op? I'm taking 3 CS courses and my tuitions is about 1500.
  • edited April 2008
Yea you do have to pay for co-op around 650 per work term I believe. And its worth 3 "additive" credits meaning that it wont count towards my BBA but it counts when calculating the total credits that I am enrolled in this semester so I have to pay full time student activity fees even though I'm only taking one class...
