sfu bandwidth...

edited February 2008 in General
hi guys, i have a lil question/concern that i wanna know the answer to

i DONT live on residents and that but i do have a sfu computing id etc...

(im a first year student)

well...i just got a laptop and was just trying out the wireless internet here at sfu...so far so good, but i've seen many ppl bittorrenting in class and download like movies and stuff... so heres my question...is there a max. bandwidth for sfu students? like a limit of how much u can download a day or something (i DONT live on rez, like i said above).

so ya...i read some post somewhere on google, saying some guys account got banned for downloading 7gbs a month or something...so before i dl this instaler for a game i wanna play, i was just wondering if theres a bandwith limit ??? and if i dl too much (i plan on dling 2gb) will i get banned as well???

thanks

iLove

    My friend got his SFU account locked for 2 weeks because he downloaded a TV show. He also got a letter in his mail about it.

    It was so weird.

    i was trying to dl a song one time through bt and it just stopped halfway through.

    i have a feeling we're not supposed to use bt through sfu servers. probably legal issues. at least we don't get sued like US students...

    Reznet = piece of shit

    175kbps down/and some abysmal upload speed

    Don't know about wireless as I won't be getting a laptop until later this week.

    Are you talking about the wireless at Burnaby or Surrey? I'm in Surrey and I noticed they choke up your download speed when you're torrenting. I needed a program for Linux and the download speed was <0.1 kb/s. It was at around 30kb/s when I got home.

    Also, regarding the legality of downloading in Canada; downloading is legal, but uploading is not.

    ... and bittorrent requires you to do both, so it's illegal.

    (not like anyone cares)
