Clothes, brand name or generic?

edited August 2008 in General
When you buy clothes does brand name have any pull on you?

I think the one outfit Im wearing right now is about 500 dollars in total

I find even if other people dont know it was that much I feel as good, as how much I spent on the clothes in relation

I prefer generic clothes because I hate wearing an ad logo on my chest.

    Nike%20T%20shirt%20d-grey.jpg

I should be paid to do this, not the other way around.

i'm a brand whore. but this doesn't translate into wearing logo's for that clothing brand and displaying it flagrantly ( although TR and ROCKS do this in my opinion )

i tend to wear JL, guess, mexx and they don't have big honking logos on them if that's the issue.

i often buy brand name, but recently i've been buying less popular names. it costs less and it's not so bad either.

i recently bought a pair of guess jeans and i really like them. even though they are the most expensive pair i ever bought ($110), i think it's worth it.

yes it does... cause even though a brand name pair of jeans cost a hell more than a pair at gap.. jeans that have a great cutting and look nice on you is priceless.. and that pretty much goes for everything other piece of clothing you spend a $$ on.. that is not to say less popular names have bad design or cutting.. it's just that brand names somewhat guarantee that with what you pay.. and... you aren't sporting clothing that you have a great chance of seeing on someone else.. though TR and ROCKS are everywhere..but jeans are exceptions!! ^_____________^

    jeans = $10
not sure about shorts underneath, they're really really old

=D =D So! I like brands because... I don't have a generalized body shape that 'average generic' apparel fits well. I'm the tall and skinny type, but very proportioned.

    1) Sleeves are always too short. I usually wear an XS in everything, but usually when you go to normal stores, they have a "petite" section for XS items, and that's for small and SHORT girls. Their long sleeves are my 3/4 sleeves. It sucks. I find that brand name clothing make longer sleeves.
    2) Pants are never long enough. I usually wear the smallest size you can find in pants, and well, like I said above it's usually categorized as "petite". Designer jeans usually have long inseams made for altering, so that works to my advantage!
    3) Sometimes the smallest size in the store doesn't even fit me. Like 1's at Old Navy or whatever.

On a good note, shoes are fine! :) I have average feet hahaha.

I like to wear brands... I guess you could say I'm pretty materialistic ><" I do feel guilty sometimes for buying brand-name clothes when I know I can get something similar that's cheaper or second-hand. But I think in most cases you get more when you pay more... for example, my skinny jeans from Guess stay tight, while my AE skinnies get baggy at the bum after wearing them for about an hour XD. But it's not always true... I think Juicy has some pretty crappy stuff even though they charge an insane amount.

I tend to buy clothing made by Lacoste, Puma, Diesel, and Nike. At the same time, I wouldn't mind wearing no name brands too if it's nice.

I like brandnames but id never wear something i find tacky, like shirts with a giant ARMANI EXCHANGE on it...never really got the point of it...its like great you shopped at armani exchange and we all know it, why not shop at the actual armani and not the outlet

More expensive isnt always better quality though...I bought a blouse from la chateau and it said it was okay to put in the dryer so i put in air dry and a burn mark showed up...i was pissed

I like brand name clothes and generic ones. Usually the tags and logos aren't visible which means casual dress shirts and slacks for me. Two ways people can distinguish my $100 set from $500 set of shoes, slacks, dress shirt and belt is by either viewing the labels (which no one can do since I am wearing the clothes) or just looking at or feeling the quality of the clothes by material and style.

An $800 set of clothes is quite something for a guy if you include a sports jacket and a tie but I could not wear a suit everyday on campus as a student.

There are people out there who can tell what material your clothing is made out of. For example, whether your dress shirt is cotton or polyester, or whether your suit is polyester or virgin wool. Just because labels aren't visible, doesn't mean that the material will be indistinguishable.

And believe it or not, $800 may not be that much at all for a decent (not exceptional, but decent) suit, shirt, tie, belt, and shoes (not to mention tailoring).

As for me, though I do wear brand names, but I don't spend extravagant amounts of money on clothing that's ultimately casual. Money on dress is always better spent on clothing for more formal occasions (e.g. job interviews, ceremonies, etc.), even though spending money on a pair of R & Rs, Sevens or TRs may be more tempting.

So even though you don't wear it everyday, formal clothing that accentuates your looks is definitely worth it (say, if you land a job partly based on how you look).

I know that everyday between my jeans, boots/shoes and jacket I'm at $1000. LOL. I'm very materialistic. And that's not including tshirts/hoodies/headscarves and my usual jewelery.

I prefer generic clothes - price is an issue. Brand name clothes don't make me feel any better anyways so I don't bother with them.

I think my entire outfit right now is.... < $10 O_O

I don't spend much on clothes.

I have no less than 14 free shirts from SFU, SFU-related events, and those marketing people in the halls of the AQ.

Usually I throw away old shoes but I believe I have (off my head).

    Three pairs of running shoes.
1 Pair of every day shoes
    1 pair of clarks
    two pairs of sandles
    two pairs of flip flops
    winter boots
    2x marching boots
    2x oxfords
    1x gortex all weather boots
    1x parade boots.

I think I have more though.

o0o shoes! I just bought a pair yesterday! Haha. I have let's see:

    4 pairs boots (lacoste, LFA)
3 pairs of running shoes (nike, fubu, fila)
3 pairs of leisure walking shoes (reebok, puma, nike)
1 pair of regular shoes (my favorite lacoste ones)
6 pairs of heels (casual & formal)
2 pairs of flats (asics and coach)
    2 pairs of flipflops (pumas!)
1 pair of work shoes (old ugly black school shoes)

    I'm sure I forgot some.

Me too, and I do go toward brands and do buy brand clothing pretty much all the time, but its not because I have (some) money or I want to be cool. I like clothes and its kind of my thing, so I like to buy clothes I like that express me and it just so happens its the expensive side, but its worth it.
