donating cash/food/time to charities

edited December 2007 in General
so this year the family has decided to spend $50 or less on each person and we are going to donate to those who are actually in need. we usually do each christmas but we're going to turn it up a few notches this year. just curious what are some good charitable organizations to look into. i'm always leary that money i give doesn't go where it's supposed to.

Does anybody know where I could donate my old computer? It's a piece of crap, but I'm sure someone out there would appreciate it...
