study aids

edited December 2007 in General
Anyone ever take prescription drugs to help them study?
For example, adderall (spelling?) or ritalin?

I mean, if you don't suffer from add or adhd, do you take these to help you focus or have you tried it?

Friend of mine says it works wonders, lol. Allows him to study like crazy for about 4 hours, but then he says your kinda burned out after lol.

I've heard a lot of first years talk about taking Ritalin to help them study, but honestly, if you need drugs to study then theres obviously something wrong. Like, how long can you do that for before you start to NEED the drugs as opposed to just trying them. My friends at UBC used to rock that shit pretty hard during exam time (and ya, they said it totally focuses you) but I personally think it's stupid whether it works or not.

No, they don't. If you don't have the specific chemical imbalance of ADD then ritalin will have the opposite effect on you.

I'm slightly OCD, and stimulants of any kind tend to bring that out in me even more. I can't study on anything, including too much coffee, cause my neuroses start getting in the way. Try studying when you realize you've been tapping your pen in increasing prime numbers for the past two hours. ;)

I go for the traditional method of warm tea and a good meal. It works like magic.

I've always found that sleeping properly and eating properly helps.
