Hi,

Anybody here currently taking or took PYSC 100 with Dr. Alder? How easy/tough was the class? How was the workload and exam difficulty?

thanks

Alder is awesome. He's kinda corny but as a result, his lectures are pretty interesting. The midterms are half multiple choice questions, and half essay questions. The essay questions used to kill everyone because they are so specific, but the multiple choice usually makes up for that since they mostly test recognition. I think I used to get almost 100% on the multiple choice and like 50% on the essay questions without much effort so you should be fine.

I think your success in Psyc 100 depends on if you find the subject matter interesting. The good thing about it is that it covers a broad range of topics that are related to psychology (every chapter is different) and they cover half the text book in psyc 100 and the rest in 102 I think.

I would recommend it though, psychology really helps you make sense of people, to a certain extent.

Is anyone taking PSYC 100 with Russell Day in the Spring semester?
I've heard mixed reviews about this course, but I'm looking at a possible Psychology minor [took 106 with Michael Pollock this semester -- recommended].

I took PSYC 100 with Russell Day this Fall term. He's a great prof; I wish he would teach PSYC 102 in the spring term.

The course consists of 3 midterms and a final. However, he dropped one of the marks, which is great. There is also a group presentation and "Research Possibilites Paper."

To get a good mark in this course:
-Start the research part of the research possibilities paper early (it will make your life a lot easier when it comes down to writing the 5-7 page report)
    -Learn APA fomat!!
-Read the text in small chunks. There are 300+ pages to read.

Thank you!!! Ratemyprofessor.com kept talking about how his exams are difficult, but the course outline looks interesting.
