Oooooohh....Skipping school

edited November 2007 in General
Whats your opinion? How do you feel when you do? Do you?

I havent gone to one of my lectures for the past 2 weeks as its audio recorded, I went to all my classes in sep and first three weeks of October, but I'm burnt out now.

I always feel guilty when skipping like I'm cheating, I think I'm going to start doing it more often in classes where I know going isn't going to help, I could either a)be reading the textbook instead of wasting my time in class or b) listening at home and not being stuck at the top of the mountain hungry and sleepy.

I feel awful when I do it. And I always think that I might miss something thats important for the final.

But then when you do go and you learn nothing more than whats written in the textbook, you're like, "Oh God, I should have just skipped".

Right now, I'm burnt out too and im so tired. I have so many things due in the next few weeks too. So skipping classes does pop into my head. But I still end up going to them, lol.

haha i haven't been to lecture or tutorial for the past two weeks, except to do my midterms...which the prof sends the lecture notes thru email anyway.

    Reasons being:
    a) I was burning out. b) my parents are away on vacay! party time! :)

I really prefer audio recordings to going to class, so I do that a lot. If they go over something quickly, I can go back and listen to it again, or pause and get caught up. I can do it at the time of day when I feel most alert and ready to retain information. Top to bottom, it's a better situation.

Skipping seems like it does no evil, especially if you have lecture audio, but ITS A BAD HABIT TO GET INTO TRUST ME in more ways then one too

I used to skip a few times a semester, but it always came to bite me in the ass, so I started buckling down and just getting to the damn class all the time so I could keep up.

I only miss class when I have homework to do, and I know that the travel time to SFU will wipe me out (I need the ENTIRE day of not leaving the house to effectively do homework). Also, ONLY if I have the audio lecture, very rarely do I miss class that doesn't have that.

I feel bad but for one my classes I've missed like 3 lectures in a row because my other communications class (220) keeps having workshops (in which he gives you answers for the paper, take home midterm etc) at the EXACT same time as my surrey cmns class..then one other time it was homework and drivers license. I'm not behind due to audio, but I find the guilt comes from missing tutorial... If it's really busy but I can swing it, I often just go to tutorial.

Oh the audio is sooo much better then sitting in class and writing 16 pages of chicken scratch notes I never look at again. I have a laptop but it's currently busted, and heavy to carry..typing at home = convenience.

At this point the only class i could ever consider skipping is CMPT 120 lectures (well, and tech114 lectures) but because of the retarded layout of my schedule skipping CMPT 120 wouldn't really give me any extra time anyway

Sounds like somebody got suckered into taking the tech one program..

    edit: and cmpt120

    Yeah, pretty much :D
I would've taken CMPT126 if it were offered at Surrey...
Actually, I was gonna take it anyway, but, then, well, I didn't.

If you can get to slurrey, you can get on the skytrain and get up to burnaby and take cmpt 126.

    " i'll do wateva i want! cuz i do wat i wan wheneva i want maury!! "

oh good old daytime television. anyways i've learned to only skip when you need to, eg study for midterm, finish homework assignment due that day. doesn't make me feel as guilty.

    i've only gone to 10 macm 101 lectures, 8 cmpt 126 lectures, 6 pol 100 lectures, x-10 (where x = total amount of lectures) econ 103 lectures.

i've stopped going to math after the first midterm.
i have never skipped a crim lecture.

I missed two lectures and two tutorials last week....and it really didnt phase me.

Im gonna go to them this week tho to make sure that i didnt miss anything crucial for the finals coming up.

i never miss class, except if assignments are due and i absolutely have to skip, then i do, or mt is next class and i need the time to study

otherwise, i have the mentality like even if i fall asleep in class and miss somethin, i cant use the excuse of not being ther, its on me

I'm a frequent skipper. I usually go to lectures and things during the first two months and then I skip the rest. I can't help it - it's way too easy to skip in university D:
