    Bwaha, Triple.

No, seriously - find a place where you know you will focus just on studying and not on other distractions. For example, I found it useful to sit at my desk and not touch the computer, just reading lecture notes and/or the textbook. If I had to use the computer for any study-related purposes I kept strictly to that.

(Studying in bed may or may not work. YMMV. This is why I suggest a non-reclining method of studying. :) )

Studying at a place where you may likely be distracted is not easy. You will likely be distracted by the television or the computer. I usually used to go to the library or a few other spots on campus to get studying done. Do so earlier in the morning and your day will be more productive. Go to a place where you have nothing to do BUT study--create environmental rather than psychological barriers to distractions. It's always better to go to a library and sit in a quiet corner than to stay at home and tell yourself that you won't watch television or use the internet (because in all likelihood you will). But if studying at home works for you, then by all means do so.

question: how early do you guys start studying for finals? i know some people that start like 4 weeks in advance (as in have started already) and i know some people that start a week before?

I usually start about a week in advance for the first final, then only start studying for the others after that one. So.. anywhere from a week to.. 2 hours.

i started this week now that i KNOW that there is really a lot of material to cover and time is required in order to know it well. yes you can call me a keener.

listening to repetitive music does help, eg electronica ( trance, house )

It so depends on you, how you study, your grasp of the material, and what you're studying, that it almost isn't even appropriate to ask that question.

If you study only a little daily, then yes, two weeks may be appropriate. Other people can cram material in four days and end up with an A. However, it's better to have a steady grasp of the material all semester long (especially for science courses because you have to make the concepts instictual). When the finals roll around, all you have to do is a few review sessions and you're set.

    - Fill your fuel tank before starting to do homework/papers. Stopping midway for food is bad.
    - Stock up on food for midnight cramming sessions.
    - Eat before going to class. Some professors get jealous at the sight of food being eaten in class and give you bad grades.
    - Get a [better] job. More money = more food.
    - Eat well before going to sleep. Getting up in the middle of the night for a snack will make you feel tired the next day.
    - When you're not busy sleeping, explore and try to discover more sources of cheap/free food. You'll need it.
    ..... yah..

I study for the finals 4 weeks prior usually. One week per course, depending on how things goes. I don't understand how people can manage studying 3 or 4 days prior. I'm freaking out already, so I don't understand how you guys take it.

^ i don't know about others.. for me i need that pressure there to make studying productive.. i've tried studying weeks ahead like you.. but it just ended up being slack time.. cramming is not good i know.. yet if i don't feel the panic/stress i can't focus my mind to study.. =( lol.. so i don't know how you do it either..
