Smoking on campus

edited November 2007 in General
Being a non smoker I obviously dont like smoke and clearly will have a non smoking bias, but even so I'm not going to sit down next to someone whos smoking then bitch for them to move but...

Going between classes from West Mall Center, and AQ I hate how I just walk out and all of a sudden I can taste the smoke from people smoking like a foot off the main walk way, like the library.

I noticed on one of the pillars outside the library it says no smoking anywhere near this area.

Cant they stand maybe more toward the middle? Anyone agree, disagree?

I don't know what you just said...

I know that you are not supposed to smoke ten meters within a doorway which is a law that obviously no one follows. Everyone who goes outside and smokes does it right besides the door and that really defeats the purpose. You have to walk through the smoke to get inside and the smoke still goes inside.

I used to smoke a lot, but even then it was never right in front of the doors. I didn't like the dirty looks I'd get when other people would have to walk past me to get inside. Nowadays, I'm more of a social smoker I guess you could say. All of my friends smoke, so I end up sparking one too when I'm hanging out with them. Other than that, maybe when I'm drinking or at a club. I wonder sometimes if smoking is a biological addiction or psychological, because I know a lot of people who would like to not smoke, but do anyways

I agree, its very annoying for them to stand near doorways or in crowded areas and smoke. Its quite disgusting to walk through the smoke to get to where you are going.

My bf is a smoker and I wont stand anywhere near him when he smokes outside. I give him the dirtiest looks ever, especially when hes outside smoking while im inside waiting for him to come in so that we can go have dinner at a restaurant. Nonetheless, the dirty looks i give him do the trick most of the time and he puts it out. But still. Annoying as hell.

I also hate when you want to go into a restaurant and there are 14 people standing the entrance smoking. Pisses me off so much.

I'm not a huge fan of cigarettes, but second hand smoke doesn't bother me at all.

I don't like the smell of it or the principle of it...I had roommates who both smoked once, and when they did smoke I would make sure I was in a different room etc...when I moved out ALL my stuff rank so bad of smoke and I didnt even realize it the entire time I lived in there.

I didnt know it had such sticking power, people even asked me if I started smoking

I am a smoker, but I always find a secluded place to smoke b/c I hate having people see me smoke and I don't like to blow smoke in other people's faces.

I know this sounds hypocritical but I give smokers who stand near the doorways a dirty look too. Not all smokers are inconsiderate! Yes yes, I'm STILL a dirty cancer stick sucker but I've been cutting down A LOT--my goal is to fully quit by December (after final exams) . Wish me luck!!

Very true. In Las Vegas, people were smoking everywhere, inside and out. Ugh, it was pretty hard for me to even breathe there at times!
