Do you work while going to school?

If so what do you do, and do you like what you do?
If you don't how do you get money, do your parents give you enough?

    I've done it in the past; I was lucky to have a job that let me work weird hours and I could sometimes do homework for a bit. I got a couple work-studies at SFU as well, but most of the time I depended on getting bursaries to get me some extra cash. :)

    The parental units did help here and there but not in large amounts.

    I get paid a nice salary and my schooling covered by a company which I hope you are all going to paying your respects to tomorrow.

    currently taking 4 courses, working 20 hours a week and maintaining a social life definitely keeps hands full.

    but fortunately costco times work great with my schedule plus i don't attend school on tuesdays thursdays. so i work on those two days plus sundays. gives me a good $250 per week.

    i work 20 hours a week, tuesday (8) thurs (8) fri (4)
    go to school on monday wedsnesday and fridays

    its pretty stressful at times, dont really hav time to 'study', just mad cram b4 anything is due, or b4 the tests

    i work at a computer hardware retailer, doin mostly merchandising/product related stuf now. cant say that i love what i do, i like it mostly for the flexible schedule, i can come in whenever is suitable for me as they know im still in school

    i usually will work full time during the semester breaks too, hav to save up for these stupid loans i need to pay off

    only downside of working at costco is the weekends and how packed it is.
    good thing they pay me 15$ an hour on sundays.

    but tomorrow is special, since it's stat holiday i'm getting:

    8 hour shift
    $11 x 1.5 (holiday pay) = ~$16/hr
    $16+ $4 sunday premium = ~$20/hr
    $20/hr x 8hr = 160$
    stat holiday pay: $160 + $11x8hrs= ~$250 in one day

    Do you guys think you would do a lot better without working?

    I find that as imelting said I basically don't have time upkeep a regular flow of homework and reading so for things like exams I have to study the night before.

    I wish I could live at home and work, when I think of how much money I spend on rent a year almost 10 grand to live downtown all the stuff I could do with that money. If I could go back I would have gotten a job straight when I was 15 or 16 and saved it all until I moved out

    I work only 2 shifts a week... I don't know how I could handle working any more than that ><" I don't know how some people do it! Thankfully, I live at home and my parents are taking care of my tuition... I just work so I don't have to ask them for allowance too.

    Does the living at home part bother you flora? Do you ever wish you had your own place, or are your parents pretty chill

    I tell ya, you think you'd like it better if you weren't living at home, then you realize what a pain in the ass paying bills and making rent is, and the luster falls off of THAT pretty fast.

    they pay for your tuition, dayum that takes a LOT of stress off your shoulders. i need loans for mine hence i work, and obviously funds for outtings and clothing..

    oh the possibilities if i didn't have any loans..

    i still but heads with my mom but i know it's wrong i'm lucky she lets me stay out until 3 and isn't COMPLETELY choked when i don't go home at night and all..long term it's better to live with parents, less responsibilities haha.

    i deliver pizza 3 days a week
    gets me about 16 an hour
    about 13 an hour after gas, and its cash so no tax and ei crap taken off
    its great too, sit around listening to music lol.
    Just started a week ago, was skeptical at first, but better than i thought!

    I would never be able to go to school if it werent for student loans, Im not able to live at home since I have noone that lives in the greater vancouver area and trying to keep myself afloat makes it difficult to go to school, otherwise it might take me like 10 years of working a year, taking a year off etc

    I'm on co-op until December, but...

    You bet I will work as much as I possibly can next semester. I like to keep occupied - last spring i had 5 courses and 2 p/t jobs working 34 hours/week. The good news, is that they were both SFU jobs, so it was convenient for me. My GPA took a good beating of course, but that's not so important to me anymore. Being involved in clubs, working out, and social life are where it's at.

    My parents basically covered my ass for the first two years of my undergrad, but now that I'm a bit older and wiser, I use student loans to pay tuition/rent and work part time on the weekends to cover random expenses like food and going out. Another thing I like about working is that it helps me have structure and routine in my schedule. Since I live alone, it's easy to get into that cycle of missing classes and being lazy, so the indirect benefits in that regard from work are good as well.

    I really want a job. Ive been looking every day for the last few months and cant find any reception jobs for only two days a week tho :( They just dont exist....who needs a receptionist for only two days, right?

    Ive been thinking of trying to find something else tho, like a retail job or something. I really dont want to work in a restaurant again tho. Those hours are so awful and I couldnt bare to try and do it again.

    My parents can be strict, but I know I'm a lot more fortunate compared to a lot of my other friends who are forced to stay home to study. But yeah it sometimes sucks that I can't complain because they basically pay for my everything.

    which is my boat as well, as many others i'm assuming.

    can't talk back, SHOULDn't talk back in the first place cause you will hear no end, at least from my mom

    conclusion made: life is difficult

    Right now, my parents pay for my tuition, rent, and my car, so I really dont pay for anything except for little things that I want (dinner with my bf/friends, clothing, going to the movies, etc).

    So right now, when I need that stuff, Im living off of the money that I made when I was working in the summer.

    However, I want to pay for my own tuition in January, so a lot of my money is going to go to that :( So I need to find a job pretty soon if I still want to go out for dinner and stuff.
