Homework Distraction

edited November 2007 in General
Does this happen to anyone else, you allot a time to do homework, and somehow 3 hours later youre still not actually doing it. Curse the internet and tv!

Yes, it happens to me ALL the time. And its so frustrating. I really should just go to Starbucks or something to do my homework cuz then theres no distractions, but I never do that.

The TV and the computer and even my radio always distract me.

    :(

I usually just go and watch tv b/c I choose to. Studying for long period of times get a little too boring anyhow. For example, today I was suppose to be studying for my CFA exam cuz it's coming up, I woke up too late, then while I was sitting at my desk I fell asleep in my chair, and now I'll have to pick up the gf cuz she wants to go for dinner.

^Lol, I hate when that happens....you allocate a certain amount of time to do something, and then something else happens and you never end up doing it.

Like yesterday, I was planning on doing a bunch of homework yesterday and today at my bf's house. But I slept in yesterday, but thought it was ok cuz I still had a lot of time to get things done. But then my mom called me around 5ish and told me that my dad was in the hospital and he had apendicitis! So, my bf drove me to the hospital and I was there until 2am (until after they did the surgery) and then went home to sleep for 5 hours, went with my family back to the hospital for 8am to pick up my dad, dropped him off at home, went and ran a bunch of errands for my family today (like grocery shopping and picking up prescriptions for my dad) and then I had a nap cuz I got such little sleep last nite. And now my bf is on his way over to pick me up so we can go out with some of his friends.

Two whole days of possible studying gone just like that. But I dont really care cuz I'm just glad that my dad is ok!! :)

Yes, I get distracted from my work horribly easily, however I've noticed I can work much better when I am aware that I am currently failing something! (Damn Calculus...)

The best way to be focus is to put on headphones and face a wall. The music should be instrumental, so there are no lyrics to distract you. I've found some awesome instrumental music while searching for study tracks.

WARNING: Seaching for study tracks can be a huge study distraction.

    WARNING: Irony inbound!

Wow. You guys never cease to amaze me in reading my mind and predicting my habits. I think we have a common disease related to being a student lol.

I had so much to do today so I was glad that I didn't have to go to school or work because of Rememberance Day, but I ended up sitting around downloading music and surfing talkSFU all day! I didn't even shower until I had to go watch Fred Claus with my little sister in the evening haha

Hope you guys buckle down before finals come around!

    face a wall = sleepy
face a hallway, doorway etc = distracted by people, not necessarily eyecandy

I listen to trance when I want to do work/code. I don't normally listen to that kind of music and it's so repetitive that it seems to keep me focused on the work.

    It's killing me.

Try to study at school - Get too hungry, start to feel sick from being hungry, want to be at home to eat real food.

Try to study at the library - Pretty much same thing, I can only last 2 hours tops then my blood sugar drops then I have to go back home.

Try to study at home - TV somehow gets turned on.

Turn the tv off, while doing "research" for my essays I somehow end up on msn or the net.

I rarely ever get into that productive grove where you can just churn out stuff non stop.

And trying to read text, read the same paragraph over and over and not digest it, or feel so tired from reading I pass out.

Hey baby e, Fred Claus was great! Obviously I wouldn't go watch it with my friends or anything but it's an awesome Christmas movie.

Hey Ether, if you like trance, check out http://www.di.fm and click on "listen now." They have really good music that can be streamed in winamp or windows media player, I've found it's the best thing to listen to when studying or writing papers because it gets you pumped up and keeps you focused.

P.S. if anyone is having trouble focusing when you're trying to read your textbook or whatever, just sloooowww it down. Try to read one sentence at a time slowly, and it will help you understand and focus, at which point you will begin to get through faster and retain just as much information.
