Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods in Crim
Can anyone tell me how hard or how bad these really are?
edit: also would taking them both at the same time be good or bad

i think its easy and friggin awesome, but i love research, haha.
1. Don't take any of them with Garth Davies. He makes the courses harder than they have to be. Take Quantitative RMs with Lussier or online. Preferably take it with Lussier because if you take it online, it'll be harder to learn the concepts that can be explained to you in class.
2. Learn to use SPSS. This applies to Quantitative RMs because you need to know it for the lab assignments and the final exam (interpreting SPSS spreadsheets).
3. Have an original idea but not too original. This applies to Qualitative RMs because you'll have to do a big project. Essentially you'll be doing 6-10 deep interviews on a topic of your choice. Make sure there's some research on it already so make sure it has been done in the past.
4. Don't leave anything to the last minute. Applies to all classes basically and to these two classes specifically. It is a lot of work but neither is exceptionally hard.
As for taking them together, the idea is not completely outrageous. I took both of them in the same semester at the beginning of this year (and two other classes for a total of 13 credits) and got an A- in each--really not that bad. I was kind of putting them off because I didn't want to take either with Davies.
Ultimately, I can't answer this question for you because I don't know how many other classes you'll be taking. If you're going to take three classes, it might not be a bad idea. However, even if you take them simultaneously and take two other classes, it won't be that bad if you stay on top of things.
I'm taking quantitative right now, and it's actually not that bad if you pay attention during lectures, and do the homework right away...
Other than that, you should still buy the shot glasses from the CSA haha
