- We pay ~$5 per semester in student fees to belong to the CFS.
- The CFS doesn't actually do anything useful for us SFU students.
- SFU students voted to break from the CFS a few months ago.
- Now we need to have an "official" meeting, or vote, or something to actually leave.
About those "I am CFS" ads on the skytrain and busses... It's like they're trying to somehow boost their public image at SFU. That's hilarious because they're wasting OUR money to pay for those ads..
Also from what I heard is that the SFSS wants to defederate from the CFS because apparently the CFS also seems incapable of accomplishing any student oriented goals. I mean, think about it for yourself. The CFS is responsible for negotiating with the govt about getting our tuition fees reduced or at least frozen. And uh.... hows that going?
The SFSS seems to believe that they can accomplish more on their own if they had the ability to negotiate independently from the CFS.
However, personally I have a problem with defederation. Unions operate the best when they are large, a power in numbers type of thing. If the SFSS defederates then it is eroding both the power of the SFSS and the CFS.
I think that the SFSS should seek internal change within the CFS. That way the SFSS can address their concerns while maintaining solidarity with the CFS. (this probubly has already been tried, but I really have no idea, I am as ignorant as everyone else).
