Anyone ever considered Univercity?

edited September 2007 in General
Has anyone ever thought about living/renting at Univercity? I know residence isn't all it's cracked up to be, so I am looking for alternatives. Anyone have any experiences or opinions? thanks

Theres going to be more buildings in the future right? By that, I mean not just the cornerstone suites as of right now

There is. I think they are only done 50% of the residential buildings and about 25% of the commercial developments (there are 4 more cornerstones coming). Not only that, but if you drive past B lot you see a big sign for HUB on the corner of university high street. They are building a parkade and 20,000 sq. ft. grocery store there right now.

That place is super expensive. I know this girl who pays over a grand for a studio apartment. Totally not worth it.

Have you actually ever lived in residence? I would think not because that statement you made is not true at all. Residence is what makes University a fun experience.

Is the residence around the campus called univercity? Cus two of my friends have been thinking of renting an apartment or studio or something, with three rooms, so we can sleep more and probably hold some parties and stuff..

Anyways, what are the residences around the campus called? And are there any of them that actually suit us? With three rooms and not overpriced..

    Thanks

I hardly think living with someone u dont know to be a "fun experience". However, i have not done it, so maybe i cant really say for those that have and have actually liked it, but it doesnt sound all that fun to me living in a squished bedroom with another person who you might not even like.

Even if i did like them, i wouldnt want to be that close to them.

i don't think any of the residences (i've only lived in 2 of them though) at sfu have a shared bedroom ... kitchens, bathrooms, lounges, etc. yes, but the actual bedrooms i'm pretty sure in all the residences are all your own

I've lived on Residence in the summer, and trust me it was not a "fun experience." I can see if you are a first year and have a strong urge to socialize and meet people that residence could be fun because all the crazy things (drinking) you do makes your box seem not that bad. But as a mature student who is upper division classes, you need some privacy and at least your own bathroom and kitchen to take care of yourself. Thats why I think univercity is a better place to live. Even though it costs more, there are some definite benefits over living in rez while still stay on campus.

You don't like with someone... you live in your own room, which only you have access to. I don't know what the heck you are thinking of...

Well maybe i have it wrong, but i was told that you share a bedroom in some of the residences.

I know in the townhouses you dont tho, but thats what i was told about the other ones.

Not a single room in residence in any of the buildings do you share a bedroom with another person.

You share floors with people but that is the point of residence, is to be social with these people.

I found a place today! My friend was looking for a place to stay this semester too, so we found a 2 bedroom apartment at "Harmony" in univercity. The rent is kind of steep, at $1450 but since we are splitting it, it's not too bad considering I'd be paying ~500 a month at res. The view isn't bad and most of my classes are in AQ so we'll see how it goes. I heard it gets kinda bad when it snows, but we'll see...

note to self: bring krazy karpet
