How many classes do you take?

edited September 2007 in General
Since there is not a lot of activity on this board I thought I would start a new thread with a question that I am wondering. As fellow SFU students, how many classes on average do you take? I am being told by peers in my departement that it is impossible to take five and six courses a semester and that you will go crazy and burn out before you complete your degree. How many classes do you take, on average, a semester?

However I find this quite the opposite since I have been doing five and six classes a semester and I have no problems balancing going to class, studying and homework, snowboarding, rowing, a social life and working out.

I usually take 3 classes. I work part time and have a social life but I don't stress myself out like some other people I know. I could probably handle 5 classes, but I would have to be school minded every single day and I find that I can't handle that even though I probably should...guess thats why its taking me an extra year to graduate!

i take 5 courses during the regular semesters; this summer I took 3, but had an internship.
I try to balance my time well because my social life and my hobbies are very important to me. I'm also the kind of person who enjoys being busy; I have the "get it done" attitude so I don't usually find myself strapped for time. Though, I don't sleep very much but I'm used to that and I hardly ever watch TV--all of that impedes on what I COULD be getting done haha. hm, I sound a little Type A here..

Plus, I'm planning to do at least four work-terms during my undergrad and I don't want to prolong my matriculation too much longer than I already am.

I've taken 7 courses (21 credits, Engineering)... It's not fun at all.

    I usually average 4-5 though.

I've been taking 4. Seems to work best for me.

4 this coming semester, it's good to have a social life and work part time at the same time or how else is the money going to flow in to fund your social life ;)?

    good ol 3 classes :)

If you're working and want a social life, take three

If you're not working or working once a week and want a limited social life, take four

If you want to finish your degree faster and do not want a social life, take five or more

Bear in mind that wanting to do well is also a factor. You can take five or take four and do a little bit better.

It used to be three a semester for me with part-time work and school in summers. A while back I decided to commit fully to school and started taking four at a time which was not at all that bad.

And don't worry about graduating on time because in the end it's meaningless.

i've taken five courses while working for 2 part time jobs.. it was hectic but managable.. =) since then i've been taking 4 courses.. i find the balance there.. i don't have to rush to get things done but the work load is enough to keep me from slacking..

    I usually take 4.

5 is way too much for me and 3 is too little.

It depends a lot on what classes they are. Some science classes have an extra 4 hour lab and lab reports due every week, so I can understand if someone only takes 3. Whereas arts classes you can easily take more

I did that once (Spring 2007). Luckily, my 2 jobs were @ SFU so I didn't need to do that much running around; i was still able to go to the gym, and be active in a couple of clubs. The thing I liked about that was that i always had something to do.

When I go back to school, i intend on doing 3 courses and 2 p/t jobs. This will allow me to enjoy more social aspects of university life.

    usually: 4

however, seeing as I may have a full-time job waiting for me assuming I graduate soon, I might need to increase that a little :S
